DESCRIPTION
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead the Ad Sourcing team in Boulder, Colorado.
To help match ads to the right users, our organization develops advanced targeting tactics, identifying cohorts of people with similar interests, lifestyle, demographics, or purchase intentions. Our services ingest billions of events every day, evaluate them in real-time, and source candidate ads for bid requests within a fraction of a second. This information allows our advertisers to show the right ads to the right user. For example, targeting your future team members in Boulder, CO on an ad might look something like this: In-market for new backcountry skis, drives a car with 4-wheel drive, and enjoys watching mountaineering movies.
Your team will build high scale and availability software systems that are mission-critical for the Amazon Ad stack. The tight latency budgets for real-time programmatic advertising coupled with high data volumes create challenging engineering problems which require ingenuity (caching, ranking, pre-compute, traffic shaping, smart performance feedback loops). As a member of our leadership team, we expect you take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture, project delivery, and operational excellence of your team. You are detail- and customer-oriented and have excellent problem solving abilities. As a people manager, you have a track record of growing engineers while aiming for delivery at a “sustainable pace”, meaning you routinely prioritize the most important things without wearing out your team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in digital advertising or marketing. Familiarity with technical aspects of digital advertising

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
