DESCRIPTION

Our Ring Data Science and Engineering (RDSE) team is at the heart of this goal, ensuring that we can harness the power of data to innovate and improve the experience for millions of customers around the world. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer to build and scale our RDSE systems.

Ring is expanding and this role will be key in the development of cutting-edge solutions for collecting, storing, and analyzing vast amounts of data. This role will both inherit existing and build new services to enhance observability across Ring devices, mobile apps, and cloud services.

Key job responsibilities
- Own the overall systems development technical life cycle for team services
- Guide the evolution of the team to offer real time search and analysis across RBKS organizations
- Develop tools to scale and manage large data clusters, automate onboarding of data, and develop self-service interfaces for the data management lifecycle
- Liaison to service teams to understand existing data sets and evaluate emerging technologies in the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence areas.
- Understand existing data streams and develop metrics from them to measure the customer experience, implement predictive modeling for proactive monitoring of KPI’s
- Evaluate the current ecosystem for log analytic plugins for customer value and write custom plugins to add insight into our service teams and customer metrics
- Define a strategy for software unit, functional and performance testing; lead code review sessions with team.
- Implement optimal security practices while scaling existing and new data services.
- Integrate data assets into REST-based services to increase data discoverability and provide self-service to teams
- Contribute to operational excellence practices within the team and perform one week of on-call rotation a maximum of every four weeks
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align solutions with business needs
- Ensure best practices and architectural guidelines are followed, with a strong focus on cloud-optimized solutions

- Build automation and self-service solutions
- Participate in Operation Excellence reviews to spot negative trends before they become production issues.
- Help key stakeholders in a variety of security and application groups across Ring with data ingestion and analytic projects.
About the team
You will be joining a veteran team with several members who have 4 years experience at Ring and Amazon. Ring doorbells and security products are part of neighborhoods across the country, so you can take pride in supporting a tangible product that helps our Neighbors be safe.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Proficiency in modern programming languages (Python, TypeScript, Go, etc.)
- Strong technical expertise in data management systems, including experience in high-volume data collection, storage, and analysis
- Deep understanding of scalable distributed systems, and cloud-based solutions, preferably AWS
- Knowledge of software development life cycle and operational excellence practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3 years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
