Amazon is Hiring a Software Development Engineer - EC2, dbrown Team Near Arlington, VA

DESCRIPTION

Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is a web service that provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. Here in the EC2 Core Telemetry and Metering group, we own the continuous tracking and measurement of customer EC2 instance usage and data transfer usage, two of the largest contributors to AWS bottom-line revenue.
Our team collects, aggregates and enriches customer layer 3 4 network flow telemetry. Our systems work at Amazon-scale, processing billions of records per second globally, and our metadata collection alone amounts to petabytes per day. This data is fundamental to our downstream services such as VPC Flow Logs, Amazon Guard Duty, Amazon Detective, and the AWS data metering and billing services. Our services are closely integrated with millions of EC2 hypervisors and other core AWS networking services.
This is primarily a back-end position, where you’ll work on batch processing problems, high availability web services, distributed systems and data on a scale more massive than most systems in the world. Given our involvement in the AWS billing process, metering accuracy is a fundamental requirement, and our services include auditors and monitoring to help ensure we are working at the highest standard.
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically one week every eight weeks. We do get paged sometimes, but when we do your team will be there to support you and we’re always striving to reduce our operational load by making our systems better.
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We are a team of mostly mid-and senior-level engineers who enjoy helping junior engineers grow through one-on-one mentoring and thorough but kind code reviews.
We take code reviews seriously. We believe that good code reviews raise our code quality, grow our technical acumen, and provide opportunities to share knowledge with each other. We ship code every day by operating as a start-up with a super strong support structure.
We’re looking for a teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, values the Amazon Leadership principles, and will help us build our positive team culture.
If you are interested in living every day at the forefront of high scale and cutting edge distributed technologies, we want you to help us grow EC2! At Amazon, it is all about working hard, having fun and making history. If you are ready to make history, we want to hear from you!
