You’ll be working on observability software that uses machine learning to detect behaviors that deviate from normal operating patterns and helping to provide actionable next steps for customers.
This position is a SDEII position on the DevOps Guru (https://aws.amazon.com/devops-guru/) development team in Seattle working to build new features for Observability and maintain our service. You’ll be working on software that uses machine learning to detect behaviors that deviate from normal operating patterns and helping to provide actionable next steps for customers. Our products are made for a variety of users including SREs, DBOps, ITOps and engineers to reduce MTTR resolving operational events. This person on this team will interact with Product Mgmt, PEs and teams in Seattle and San Jose. We deal with many areas of ambiguity, acting much like a start-up with data collection, making product increments, assessing impact and questioning our longer term roadmap to ensure customer delight. This person would be joining a team that has full ownership of the service and working in many different components. Our stack is serverless (Lambda, API GW, DDB, SQS and Kinesis) using mainly Java and Kotlin.
Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, you will deliver working features spanning the full software lifecycle including working backwards from the customer, software design, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, and documentation. You will collaborate with cross functional partners such as product managers. You will coach others on producing high quality code, using processes such as code review as a teaching mechanism. You can balance constraints, limiting the use of short-term workarounds with longer term thinking in order to decrease friction between the customer and software. You ensure the software you produce can be maintained and extended by those not familiar with the code by writing clear documentation and making good design choices. You train new team members on how your software is constructed, how it operates, and how it fits into the bigger picture.
A day in the life
Working closely with your agile development team and cross functional partners to deliver impactful products to customers. Our ideal candidate is excited about the incredible opportunity that machine learning monitoring represents and is deeply passionate about delivering the highest quality products.
