Amazon is Hiring a Senior UX Designer, ASBX Design and Research Near Seattle, WA

DESCRIPTION

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Amazon is radically rethinking how to improve the experiences for all of its software builders. In early 2022, we brought existing and nascent teams under a new banner, Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX), with a mission to modernize our processes and tools so software builders of all types can focus on innovating, rather than waste time wrestling with outdated and obtuse mechanisms.
Currently we are beginning work to improve both the technical and UX-centric aspects of our builder experiences in the following areas:
• The full code pipeline from authoring and deployment to governance and testing;
• Automating tasks where humans can be removed;
• Monitoring issues at the micro- and macro-levels, and giving users streamlined means to reduce mitigation time;
• Alerting builders to incidents with valuable insights to determine where attention is required at any time and in any place;
• Building out an entirely new task management system giving individual users the ability to know what to work on and leadership the have visibility into team velocity;
• Implementing new work orchestration tools to help all Amazonians find the right teams to do any kind of work across our full portfolio;
• Instituting a new, scalable set of tools to gain operational insight into how all Amazon services are functioning and knowledgable recommendations on ways to improve;
• Revitalizing our training, documentation, wiki, Q&A, and video tools to let domain experts across the company help other Amazonians discover the knowledge they need to innovate more easily on behalf of their customers.
Key job responsibilities
• Help create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience and associated UI framework and assets on a range of products; follow through with the processes and tactics to implement the vision
• Produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, user interface specifications, and final graphics
• Initiate and manage user experience research and testing processes
• Drive the development and communication of design guidelines, patterns, and libraries
• Perform metrics analysis to inform design/UX optimization efforts
• Oversee close coordination with the product management team to develop a shared vision of a product and then lead a process to define the experience and design to deliver on the product’s objectives
• Partner with the technology team to ensure we leverage the scale offered by our platform without compromising on core experiential principles
• Work strategically with other team members across the organization
• Partner with others in the broader design community to develop and extend the experience across the array of offerings
• Help build and mentor our growing UX and engineering organization
A day in the life
You'll meet with product and engineering stakeholders to cover progress on features, review documents and attend team meetings with leadership to ensure design thinking is applied to our development processes, produce designs (surprise!) and share them with the UX team for cross-organizational improvements on shared workflows across our suite of tools, and most likely spend time socializing with your stakeholders and peers.

About the team
Understanding that our org has the mandate to make software building awesome for all software builders, our close-knit team of designers and researchers are making that first we build more robust tools. More importantly, we're incorporating best UX practices into how we build those tools such that they can be scaled out and applied by all Amazonians to make their output truly resonate with customers.
And even though we represent 50 products, the UX team meets twice weekly to share ideas and work so we can cross-inform product recommendations for our entire portfolio.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 8 years of design experience
- Have an available online portfolio
- 6 years of experience working in direct collaboration with product leadership, development managers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes
- Experience with UX design of complex workflows

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
