DESCRIPTION

Do you like to solve new problems that didn’t exist before and have ability to see the impact of your successes in near real-time ? Amazon Prime Video is growing, and we are looking for Software Development Engineers (SDEs) who move fast, are capable of breaking down and solving complex problems, and have a strong will to get things done. SDEs at Amazon work on real world problems on a global scale, own their systems end to end and influence the direction of our technology that impacts hundreds of millions customers around the world. At Amazon, an SDE can expect to design flexible, scalable solutions and work on some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing by utilizing your skills in data structures, algorithms, and object oriented programming.
Catalog Offers and Policy Store (COPS) team is in the critical path of Prime Video streaming customer’s experience as it manages and serves Offers & Policies for titles that govern how the customer can consume the digital content. Offers team powers the Buy box experience on PrimeVideo. Policy Store team is responsible for all the policies associated with titles e.g. rental, downloads. COPS tech team is responsible for managing low latency high throughput Tier-1 APIs that serves over 130 internal clients powering search, browse, carousels, buy/rent/play/download transactions and streaming experience for our customers.
Key job responsibilities
As a member of the team, you will spend your time as a hands-on engineer and a technical leader who takes ownership of business/technical problem end to end. You will play a key role in defining the architecture for software using a wide range of technologies, programming languages and systems. You will be given the freedom to explore your own ideas with the reward of seeing your code raise the bar for millions of Amazon customers worldwide, including your own family and friends.
You will interface with product manager & stakeholders to understand the business requirements. You will author detailed design covering process/data flow diagrams, key trade-offs, technology & cost considerations that you will review with your team’s SDEs/Sr. SDEs as well as impacted upstream/downstream interface SDEs/Sr. SDEs to incorporate feedback resulting in well thought out high quality designs.
You will engage in design reviews within team as well as within org with aim of providing feedback to elevate the quality of designs You will engage in various team ceremonies like code reviews, daily standup, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint retros, operational excellence hand-offs.
You will build large-scale, tier-1 (T1), high-performance, customer-friendly self-service tools and back-end services using the AWS technologies like Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Redshift and S3. Front-end engineers will use React and other latest UI libraries in addition to all the AWS technologies.
You will actively engage in operational support for your team, and ensure that the root causes of operational issues are identified and resolved. You don’t settle for the status quo, and routinely identify and execute on opportunities to improve your team’s operations.

Successful candidates for this position will have a background in Java, C#, or C and ideally have some knowledge of Ruby and SQL. Equally important to these specific skills is a candidate's ability to multi-task, adapt quickly to new development environments and changing business requirements, learn new systems, gain new skills, create reliable & maintainable code, and find creative, scalable solutions to difficult problems.
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and orally is a key competency as is demonstrable skill as a self-starter. The ideal SDE-2 (L5) candidate is clearly passionate about delivering experiences that delight customers and creating solutions that are robust. A commitment to team work, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements. Creating reliable, scalable, and high performance products requires exceptional technical expertise, a sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science, and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems. This person has thrived and succeeded in fast paced environment where learning new concepts quickly is a must.
Basic Qualifications
* 2 years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
* 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
* Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C , or C# including object-oriented design
* Working knowledge of databases, service-oriented architectures, and highly-scaled distributed systems
* Commanding knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and object oriented design
* Deep knowledge of design patterns
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Working knowledge of programming languages beyond Java, C or C (e.g. Ruby, Python, Perl)
* Experience with Amazon Web Services
* Experience with mission critical, 24x7 systems
* Experience with high throughput cloud systems
* Experience implementing and consuming large scale web services
Preferred Qualifications
* Strong, object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C and/or Java preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform)
* Knowledge of Perl or other scripting languages is a plus
* Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases
* Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
* Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly
* Previous technical internship(s) preferred
* Master's in Computer Science a plus
* Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
* Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2 years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3 years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
