The Outbound Communication Services team is the backbone of Amazon’s customer communication, enabling seamless interactions through Email, SMS, and Push notifications. As a Data Engineer in our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the way Amazon connects with customers, impacting the interactions of not just the global Amazon community but also those closest to you.
In your role, you'll be at the forefront of reinforcing the technological framework that powers Amazon's direct engagement with its customers. Your expertise will drive the creation of resilient and scalable software solutions capable of managing immense data loads and supporting a high volume of transactions. Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant data infrastructure for high-volume outbound communication channels.
- Implement robust data flow solutions that integrate seamlessly with real-time messaging systems, ensuring data integrity and efficient processing.
- Collaborate with software engineers to extract, transform, and load data from diverse sources, optimizing for performance and scalability.
- Develop automation tools to enhance data availability, consistency, and compliance, aligning with Amazon's Best At Amazon (BAA) standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in data infrastructure, exploring innovative technologies and methodologies to solve complex data challenges.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements, delivering solutions that enable data-driven decision-making and personalized customer experiences.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Seattle, WA, USA
- 1 years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with one or more query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)
- Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)
- Knowledge of writing and optimizing SQL queries in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.
- Knowledge of AWS Infrastructure

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
