DESCRIPTION

Amazon Health Service Compliance team is seeking a Controlled Substance Compliance Manager for the controlled substance compliance function supporting the pharmacy business. In this role, the Controlled Substance Compliance Manager will partner in the development of compliant business practices associated with our controlled substance ordering, processing, dispensing and inventory management. A successful candidate in this role will be able to quickly learn the pharmacy business and build strong working relationships with stakeholders. This individual will be responsible for carefully monitoring controlled substance purchasing and dispensing trends across multiple pharmacy sites. This individual will also closely collaborate with Amazon Pharmacy’s supply chain and vendor management teams to provide compliance guidance and oversight of the controlled substance procurement through primary and secondary wholesalers. A strong candidate will stay connected to the details while working closely with Pharmacy Operations, Legal, Loss Prevention, Data Analysts, Vendor Management, and other stakeholders to strategize on how to strengthen and scale our controlled substance processes. You should be a self-motivated individual interested in the pharmacy business and able to work both independently and collaboratively. A successful candidate in this role will be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail, must be able to partner and collaborate well with other stakeholders, and have strong written and communication skills.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop, communicate, and roll-out strategic initiatives to support controlled substance inventory management
• Manage Controlled Substances Policies and Procedures related to controlled inventory and loss reporting
• Monitor purchasing and dispensing trends for all the pharmacy sites and at the enterprise level to comply with all Federal, State and Wholesaler requirements
• Collaborate with supply chain and vendor management to provide approval for each use case to use secondary vendor to procure CS
• Centralize the DEA 106 reporting and monitor trends with carriers and NDCs which are often being reported
• Partner with stakeholders to create and implement effective controlled substance processes for handling of all controlled substances including ordering receiving, dispensing and reverse distribution
• Oversee the Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMP) processes for pharmacist checking and reporting per the state specific regulations
• Continually raise the bar for the Controlled Substance suspected loss processes including identification, investigation, reporting to DEA/State BOPs, and developing internal auditing and monitoring metrics for proactive and reactive suspected significant losses
• Collaborate with Loss Prevention, Pharmacy Operations, Amazon Transportation Services and other stakeholders to identify trends with internal and external (shipping carrier) related losses and implement necessary policies and processes

• Partner with stakeholder teams including Pharmacy Operations, Loss Prevention, Legal, Amazon Transportation Services, Vendor Management and others.
• Develop, communicate, and roll-out strategic initiatives to support controlled substance inventory management oversight
• Monitor purchasing and dispensing trends for all the pharmacy sites and at the enterprise level to comply with all Federal, State and Wholesaler requirements
• Maintain policies, procedures, reporting, and other documentation related to controlled substances
• Partner with loss prevention to identify and investigate variances
• Internally report on controlled substance metrics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree with 3 years pharmacy compliance or pharmacy operations experience OR Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy. Knowledge of pharmacy regulations and laws. Business proficiency in speaking and writing. Aptitude for building strong working relationships. Proven organization skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication. Attention to detail and thorough documentation practices. Willingness to travel up to 20%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Pharmacy degree (Doctorate or Bachelors) from an accredited college of Pharmacy. Deep understanding of regulations governing the Pharmacy industry, especially Controlled Substances. Experience with data analytics and data-based decision-making.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $59,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $142,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
