AMER Edge Data Center Operations team is looking to hire an experienced and highly motivated individual to provide local and remote support for its Edge & PoP (Point of Presence) Data Centers in the North America region.
About You:
We are looking for a highly autonomous, detail-oriented individual who demonstrates a strong network and server troubleshooting skillset. You must possess excellent written & verbal communication skills, and be able to take on a leadership role within a team environment to consistently deliver results for our customers. About the Role:
As an Edge Data Center Operations (DCO) technician at Amazon you will help build and maintain a world-leading cloud computing infrastructure across multiple data centers in the North America region.
Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Triaging emergent data center issues using a ticketing system.
  • Troubleshooting & configuring network and server hardware.
  • Coordinating remote hands support with colocation providers.
  • Working with cross-functional teams – both internal and external.
  • Leading network & server scaling projects to expand AWS Edge data center infrastructure.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside of standard business hours, including nights and weekends, in support of a follow-the-sun on-call rotation and other time-sensitive escalations.
  • Working with capacity teams to expand the AWS network.
  • Resolving data center facility issues.
  • Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets standards.
  • Driving the team to improve operational efficiency through process improvement initiatives.
  • Producing reports to management on metrics and project status.
Key job responsibilities
  • Tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
  • Drive projects with moderate complexity.
  • Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Perform rack installs, rack decommissioning, operational readings and facility management.
  • Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers.
  • Responsible for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
  • Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
  • Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems, root cause analysis, change management creation, writing procedures and building management systems.
  • Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations have on-call rotations.
  • Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.999% uptime of the world's largest cloud computing portfolio.
  • Role may support more than one location/site.
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain. Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds unassisted and participate in group lifts for 40 pounds
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull.

  • Experience working in a colocation data center facility.
  • Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
  • Understanding of distributed and service-oriented architectures.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber optic & copper cabling standards, testing equipment & troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Exceptional ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network device and link issues (Layer 1 & 2).
  • Excellent knowledge of server hardware and components.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP networks.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent task prioritization and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to effectively manage through conflict.
