Amarillo ISD is Hiring a Community Relations Coordinator Near Amarillo, TX

This position is Open Until Filled after the mandatory 10 day posting window

This is a 230 day position


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide support to the District’s Community Relations and Community Partnerships to generate a climate of understanding of the district’s mission, vision and goals. Assist in the coordination of the public relations functions of the District assist by promoting positive community partnerships and by helping to maintain the critical connection between the AISD Board of Trustees and District Administration.


Minimum Education/Certification:

0Bachelor’s Degree


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strong writing and editing skills

Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Ability to conduct and analyze research and synthesize data into a clear and concise format

Strong leadership and human relations skills, organizational skills and initiative

Ability to work alone or as part of a team

Ability to handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously and meet established deadlines

Proficient computer skills including use of the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher. Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and InDesign experience preferred

Detail oriented

Flexible and able to adjust easily to changes in daily routine


Work Conditions:

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, prolonged use of computer

Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours

Environment: Frequent district-wide travel, some statewide and out of state travel; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to problem solve, interpret data and acquire and apply new skills and knowledge; ability to resolve conflicts; ability to adapt and be flexible in multiple environments; prolonged, irregular, and/or extended hours may be required at certain times in the year

Regular attendance is an essential function

Minimum Experience:

Three years successful experience in communication, journalism, or public relations in education, legislative, or industry

AND/OR Experience in the field of public relations, journalism or related profession


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assist schools, departments, and the Board of Trustees with public relations and customer service efforts and serve as an advisor regarding the public relations implications of actions and decisions.
  • Assist the District in establishing and maintaining District partnerships and volunteer opportunities that impact the success of AISD students.
  • Along with other members of the departments, assist in setting annual objectives for the Community Relations and Community Partnerships Departments in accordance with the overall goals and objectives of the district and assist in planning a department budget to meet those goals.
  • Assist with various customer service recognition and public relations programs. Assist with other activities, projects, and special events of the Community Relations and Community Partnerships Departments.
  • Assist with special programs such as Superintendent’s Ambassadors, iLead, Key Communicators, etc.
  • Collaborate with the district webmaster on the content and design of the district website for the Community Relations, Community Partnerships, and Board of Trustees information.
  • Assist the Director of Community Relations to provide administrative support to the Board of Trustees in preparing all meeting agendas, maintaining Board meeting agendas and board minute archives, assisting trustees with continuing education training requirements, and performing other administrative tasks.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure the successful connection between the AISD Board of Trustees and the AISD Central Office Administration.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure appropriate flow of information from the Texas Legislature to the AISD Board of Trustees and the AISD Central Office Administration.
  • Assist in the review, revision, approval, and adoption of Board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Attend School Board meetings, school district activities, and meetings of educational importance in the community.
  • Serve on community organization boards and attend conferences to stay informed of professional practices in the field of public-school communications and community relations.
  • Assist with design, production, and distribution of brochures, certificates, invitations, programs, fliers, and other printed material.
  • Assist with databases, mailing lists, and mail-outs for programs and events such as Partners in Education, Teacher of the Year, Superintendent's Scholars, etc.
  • Create memos, letters, reports, and other forms of correspondence as requested.
  • Write and edit written material in AP style for various materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers including the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned
