**This is a full-time, limited term position limited term position. There is one vacancy which there is no sunset date for this limited term position.** DEFINITION Under the direction of the Program Manager, independently perform a variety of difficult and specialized outreach support functions, assist professional staff in the development and implementation of comprehensive health promotion and related public information programs promoting healthy lifestyles, health risk reduction and prevention; engage in the preparation and implementation of educational programs; assist families with accessing different health and social services; participate in emergency preparedness programs; and performs related duties as required. REPORTS TO Higher level management or supervisory staff. CLASSIFICATIONS SUPERVISED This classification does not exercise supervision over staff.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed. Research, develop, plan and coordinate community outreach program activities.Provide prevention education and referrals regarding activities, services and resources available through the department or within the community.Develop and prepare well written correspondence/educational flyers/brochures/informational boards and professional power point presentations.Attend community meetings and serve on committees or boards as the department representative.Work with school administrators, business leaders, parents and youth to promote alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free activities and efforts to reduce youth alcohol and drug related problems.Work with health providers, law enforcement and other partner agencies and community members to promote healthy lifestyle choices.Distribute educational materials to control spread of communicable diseases and /or emergency preparedness and response planning at health fairs, at-risk teen presentations, parent groups, etc.Provide technical expertise to healthcare providers concerning billing assistance/troubleshooting for state-mandated programs.Assist Public Health staff to meet state and federal oversight requirements.Organize community events (rallies, trainings, health fairs, car seat checks, conferences, and other special events as needed).Performs home visits to provide families with educational information and community resources.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of training which would likely provide the required knowledge and experience is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: EducationA High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. In addition, an AA degree in community health education, health science, child development or other relevant areas of education that would apply to outreach education is desired. ExperienceTwo years of volunteer or paid work experience with community organizations, schools, prevention and/or health education and outreach programs.CertificationsCertifications may be program specific. Each individual employee in this classification may be assigned to several programs. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Certified Passenger Safety Technician.Healthy Families/Medi-Cal/PCIP Certified Application Assistant.CPR and AED Certified.Mental Health First Aid USA Certified Initial Responder.BROOKES On Location Ages and Stages Developmental/Social-Emotional Assessments.California Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of a valid California Driver's License issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
