The Supplier Development Engineer is accountable for deployment of best practices and assurance of consistency for supplier audits, supplier statuses, supplier selection, monitoring practices, metrics, and field action prevention in Aludyne plants. The Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) also serves as the leader for initiatives such as audit harmonization, distribution and service supplier initiatives and improvement

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all Supply Chain documentation and acts as a representative for Supply Chain for IATF audits
  • Supplier Self Evaluation & other assessments (establish process, oversee, evaluate)
  • Ensures Supplier’s compliance to SQ Process in conjunction with plants
  • Participates in developing, monitoring and improving Supplier Quality Manual
  • Helps Global Supplier Development Manager setting strategic targets and focus areas to improve the overall suppliers’ performance
  • Helps define and implements the respective KPIs
  • Monitors & Reports Supplier Performance at various levels
  • Support high severity supplier issue resolution
  • Participates in quality planning during launch phase of new products
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts by leading supplier development projects/programs
  • Teaming up with Engineering, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Customers to harmonize discrepancies in product specifications and evaluate cost reduction or quality improvement opportunities
  • Ensures changes to quality standards are communicated and deployed at Supplier locations
  • Enforces 100% on-time delivery requirements, 100% on-time / on-budget launches
  • Maintains a positive contribution to quality, customer satisfaction and company profitability
  • Represents the Company in an ethical manner, being firm, fair and professional at all times
  • Ensure Purchasing team globally is compliant with IATF/ISO requirements
  • Interface with all plants weekly to monitor supplier performance for emerging issues
  • Interface, if required, with OEM field service weekly for emerging supplier issues and maintain and monitor OEM Scorecards for any PRR related issues and work with suppliers to address and identify a resolution.
  • Qualify Future Program Suppliers with assessment tools and on site reviews
  • Act as Arbitrator between Suppliers and facilities on disputed issues.
  • Supports commercial management of Supplier post sourcing kick-off, ensuring adherence to the contract
  • Supports periodic management review meetings
  • Supports and reviews supplier rating system continuously evaluating supplier’s delivery and quality performance
  • Leads and participates in achieving 3-5% net YOY continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities
  • Periodically visits suppliers to improve relations and assess their facilities in the areas of quality, financial stability and continuous improvement
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, Employee Handbook and Purchasing Policies and Procedures
  • Work with team members and project managers to prioritize projects and workload 
  • Stay on top of trends and quality technology
  • Stay current with software updates, industry standards and technology developments 
  • Work with suppliers through 8D process
  • Support resolutions for hostile suppliers, nonpayment from suppliers and deliver concerns
  • Monitor supplier QMS and CQI certificate submissions
  •  IATF 16949 Second Party Auditor Certification and VDA 6.3 Auditor Certification (VDA required by European OEMs)
  • Knowledge of AIAG Core Tools (PPAP, APQP, MSA, Run@Rate, PFMEA, Control Plans)

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree Program in Engineering or related field
  • Experience with an automotive Tier 1 in Manufacturing or Quality in Supplier Quality preferred
