What You Will Do
Project Management : Responsible for development of project plans and management of cross functional development team that includes surgeons, marketing, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing.
Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.
Plans and formulates engineering program and organizes project according to project requirements.
Design Analysis: Responsible for performing and supervising analyses to evaluate technical design feasibility of products.
Directs integration of technical activities and products.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
Mentorship: Supervise and mentor less experienced designers and drafters.
Check design work of other engineering department members including layout, form, fit, function, materials, specification callouts, geometrics, dimensions, and other out-put as directed.
Market Survey: Benchmark "best-in-class" competitive products to support development of product inputs and market expectations.
CAD Modeling: Responsible for modeling of complex mechanical parts using CREO CAD software.
Design Control: Responsible for creation of design control documentation per Altus Spine design control procedure.
Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
Uses computer assisted design/drafting equipment and software to develop designs.
Sketches rough layouts and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
Manufacturing Interface: Work with in-house manufacturing experts to properly design for manufacturing ability and quality.
Measures machine and parts during production to ensure compliance with design specifications.
Marketing: Support marketing strategy by co-developing marketing collateral, assisting with training labs and conferences.
Perform liaison function between Engineering staff and all internal departments, including Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Sales, Production, Accounting, Metal Finishing and Assembly.
May assist in overseeing and assigning work to other functional teams.
Handles Material Review Board responsibilities for Product Engineering.
Who You Are
B.S. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Minimum of 7-10 years design engineering experience
Basic knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology
Minimum of 5 years in the medical device industry (Spine Preferred)
Advanced knowledge of spine anatomy
Background in medical device industry a plus
Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers
Able to work with minimal supervision, both alone and in teams
Strong project management experience
Motivated self-starter
Expert level CAD skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Excellent understanding of fundamental mechanical principles
