We are currently seeking a Senior Analytical Scientist to join the New Product Assessment group within the Analytical Sciences department located in Richmond, VA.
This position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role that will be responsible for the development of analytical methods to support the design and characterization of smoke-free products. The candidate must have experience with chromatographic separation techniques, mass spectrometry, sample preparation, and instruments troubleshooting. The successful candidate will use their chemistry knowledge to support product development initiatives and generate data to support regulatory compliance and applications.
What you'll be doing:
• Develop analytical methods for the determination of an array of analytes in various matrix types to support smoke-free products development and regulatory applications
• Conduct routine and rapid analysis and stability testing using novel techniques to provide insights and support product development efforts
• Provide support by reviewing data and writing validations plans and reports
• Participate in scientific meetings and communicate our scientific strategies to develop reduced harm products
• Maintain and manage the appropriate documentation to be aligned with ISO 17025 Accreditation, Altria Quality System, and Records Management policies
What we want you to have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Food Science, or related field
• A minimum of 3 year of experience working with liquid or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the analysis of compounds in complex matrices
• Demonstrated experience in developing new methods and analytical innovative solutions is preferred
• Experience with analytical data review process and evaluation of chemical stability
• Proficiency with chromatography and mass spectrometry data analysis software’s such as MassLynx, Empower, ChemStation, and MassHunter
• Experience working in a regulated environment under ISO 17025 Accredited laboratory or other regulated laboratory environments is preferred
• Experience with sample preparation and extraction techniques (LL, SPE, etc.) for the quantitative analysis of targeted compounds in complex matrices
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, multi-task, and be a strong team player
• Excellent attention to detail, verbal, and written communication skills
