The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Engineering Technician I at Altek are described below:

Summary
The Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Engineering Technician I creates and manages the necessary machine programs and documentation to run production equipment in accordance to the established methods and sequences of operations for the entire SMT process. Makes setups and adjustments for holding tolerances to drawing specifications or industry standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
of the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Engineering Technician I at Altek
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
  • Program and troubleshoot issues with the SMT equipment to include: Stencil printing equipment, SPI, Pick-and-Place, AOI and reflow ovens.
  • Orders and manages SMT stencils.
  • Aiding in the validation of new and existing equipment, process and tooling using proven methods and procedures.
  • Order supplies and tooling for maintenance and operation of equipment as well as for subsequent manufacturing processes.
  • Assures product and process quality by monitoring and changing equipment programming in accordance to procedures
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provides other engineering staff information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with ISO AS9001:2015 standards, internal policies and procedures as well as any statutory regulations.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services as needed; following manufacturers and internal instructions and established procedures; requesting special service when needed.
  • Maintains product, process and equipment data by working with computer programs; entering data.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process controls, and various manufacturing equipment used in the Electronics manufacturing process.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and interface with all levels of the organization
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in Lean and/or Six-Sigma practices.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively and openly with others, both internally and externally.
  • Good presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas and scientific findings.
  • Team player who works willingly with others and keeps a positive, goal-focused outlook when tackling challenging, time-sensitive engineering problems.
  • Flexible and adaptable to rapidly shift gears into multi-disciplinary roles based on current project requirements.
  • Knowledge of IPC and J-STD. Certification a plus
  • 2D CAD experience

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, manufacturing equipment, maintenance, electronics manufacturing, or a combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions
High level maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Position also requires occasional travel
