Altamonte Family Practice is Hiring a Medical Receptionist/Assistant Near Altamonte Springs, FL

Private family practice office in Altamonte Springs is looking for a FT employee to join our front desk team, who will be responsible for providing excellent customer service as well as basic clinical care when needed.

JOB SUMMARY: With a customer service orientation—register patients, answer the telephone, prepare the office for the day, and schedule patient appointments.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

▪ High school diploma required

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

▪ Up to two years of experience in a medical office preferably family practice

▪ Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications

▪ Knowledge of practice management and word processing software

▪ Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously

▪ Proven experience handling irate patients/customers and dealing with conflict

▪ Familiarity with scheduling and rearranging appointments

▪ Working knowledge of managed care

▪ Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor

▪ Neat, professional appearance

▪ Strong written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Telephone Answering and Scheduling

▪ "Opens" the office each day, according to protocol

▪ Answers the telephone pleasantly, and by the third ring as often as possible; routes call or takes message

▪ Schedules patient appointments explains to patient which pieces of information they are to bring, provides a range of potential charges for the visit and the patient’s financial obligation, provides patients several scheduling options, follows practitioner approved scheduling guidelines

Daily Preparation

▪ Runs the daily schedules one day ahead

▪ Prepare new patient paperwork for upcoming appointments

▪ Review insurance eligibility for established patients

Check-In and Registration

▪ Greets patients as they arrive for scheduled appointments

▪ Provides new patients appropriate paperwork for required signatures

▪ Verifies demographic information for new and established patients, according to protocol and updates computer system as needed

▪ Reviews insurance information for new and established patients, according to protocol and contacts physician team to verify benefits when patient presents with new insurance

▪ Explains financial and collection policies to new patients—provides written guidelines to each patient

▪ Ensures the necessary patient paperwork is complete before patient is ready to be roomed by Medical Assistant

▪ Informs patients in the reception area when the physicians are running behind—offers to reschedule them

Other

▪ Balance posted transactions at the end of each day

▪ Screens visitors and responds to routine requests for information

▪ Keeps the patient reception area neat and clean at all times throughout the day

▪ Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice

▪ Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions

Typical Physical Demands

Position requires extended sitting, some standing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Employee will work under stressful conditions and may work irregular hours.

Only candidates with medical office experience and who complete the screening questions will be considered. ATHENAHEALTH experience a plus!

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
