SEMCO - Damage Prevention Specialist
The Damage Prevention Specialist serves as a member of the Emergency Management Team within SEMCO Energy focused on mitigation and prevention.
The Damage Prevention Specialist will be generally responsible for the on-site inspection of third-party construction near the company's underground distribution system in an effort to minimize third-party damage and protect public safety.
Responsible for inspecting the work of third party excavators, including enforcement of company procedures regarding safe operation near company gas facilities.
Responsible for using technology to determine high risk and high consequence MISS DIG tickets.
Ensure excavation is not occurring before the required wait times.
Responsible for auditing internal line locates on sites considered to be high risk.
Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of all field activities.
Assists Loss Prevention Analyst with third party damage investigation and determining root cause of third party damages.
Visually inspects natural gas infrastructure, ROW locations, company drawings and other utility areas for abnormal conditions or discrepancies and notifies appropriate personnel.
Performs duties within company policies and procedures and in compliance with all Federal and state excavation / dig laws.
Represents the company at planning and coordination meetings for excavations including, DOT, Public Works, City and other industry related organizations.
Participates and facilitates damage prevention education programs to the public and contractors.
Assists in responding and coordinating emergency incidents as part of the Emergency Management Team utilizing the Incident Command System.
Minimum Qualifications :
Knowledge of business practices and analysis at a level normally acquired through the completion of an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering or other closely related field.
Minimum of one to three years of related work experience.
Thorough knowledge of gas main and service line locating procedures.
Knowledge and thorough understanding of utilization of GIS.
Proven organizational and analytical skills, the ability to evaluate data, compile statistics and reports.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in order to deal effectively with internal and external relationships, notably third party contractors.

Good working knowledge of spreadsheet applications and various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company.
Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public trough adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
Able to perform work that involves sitting at a desk and operating personal computer equipment for extended periods of time.
Duties may also involve occasional bending, stooping and lifting of up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
Frequent travel to various worksites may also be required, depending on assignment. May review interior and exterior work locations that involve hazardous environments requiring personal protective equipment and some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust and noise.
May be required to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and in adverse weather conditions
In addition to our standard benefits package, the estimated base salary for this role will range from $65,000 - $81,000, depending upon experience.
