Responsibilities:Our Construction Equipment Group is seeking a full-time heavy equipment field service diesel technician / mechanic with the classification of Class 2 Mechanic. This is a union position and will be part of Operating Engineers Local 158. A Class 2 Mechanic is one who is skilled generally in maintenance, repair and rebuilding of several types of equipment or, who are specialists in the maintenance, repair and rebuilding and troubleshooting of one or more types of equipment and major sub-assemblies, but who do not have the high degree of skill or experience of a Class "1" Mechanic and who need from time to time the supervision and guidance of others for the successful performance of their duties. A Class 2 mechanic must have a full set of tools. Additional responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:Complete inspectionsImplementation of optional accessoriesGeneral repairsUpkeep of the service truckResponsible for the inventory of onboard partsIncorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activitiesPerforms other duties as assignedConsistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start timeWe encourage our Technicians to participate in our in-house training program, allowing them to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting and further advance their career as a technician. Also, company uniforms are provided!Qualifications:Four years of previous heavy equipment or over the road (OTR) repair experience is requiredPrevious mechanic repair experience (heavy equipment, diesel) including experience in the Military, Guard or Reserve with an MOS or NEC code of 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M or CMPrevious field experience is highly preferableExcellent mechanical aptitudeGood written and verbal communication skillsGood time management skillsAbility to work after hours as neededMust have clean driving record and valid driver’s license to drive company vehicleExcellent mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of the following systems: engine, power train, hydraulics and electricalPossess own toolsA positive attitude and high energyComputer programs - Microsoft Outlook, Volvo VCADSLanguage Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.Mathematical Skills - Basic: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
