AlRazi Academy is Hiring a Lead Early Childhood Teacher Near Des Moines, IA

Description:

The Lead Teacher provides a safe, stimulating learning environment for children and maintains open lines of communication between the child care program and client families. The Lead Teacher provides leadership to other staff, implementation of curriculum, and supervision of children.

Accountability:

Reports to Center Director

Minimum qualifications:

Required: at least 21 years old, completion of all state-required early childhood training classes, CDA credential, two years of experience in group child care. Successful applicants are expected to continue formal training to meet program requirements.

Preferred: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, five years experience in child care

Responsibilities:

To establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment

  • Designs appropriate room arrangement to support Creative Curriculum
  • Promotes healthy eating practices
  • Maintains a safe environment by monitoring child areas for hazards and supervising children at all times.
  • Posts necessary information to ensure the safety and well being of the children.
  • Maintains an orderly learning environment through the use of labels, containers, and shelving.

To advance physical and intellectual competence

  • Provides a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities.
  • Provides a balance between quiet and active learning activities.
  • Uses equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play that promote children’s physical development.
  • Provides an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children.
  • Plans and executes appropriate learning experiences indoors and outdoors in accordance with the curriculum.

To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance

  • Plans and implements culturally diverse expectations.
  • Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
  • Establishes routines with smooth transition periods.
  • Communicates with children at their developmental level.
  • Encourages Children to be independent.
  • Screens children using Ages and Stages.

To establish positive and productive relationships with families

  • Relates assessment information to parents and offers support for dealing with children at different stages.
  • Promotes communication with parents through progress notes, monthly newsletter, parent conferences, email, phone calls, written notes and personal conversation.
  • Provides a variety of ways that families can participate in the program.
  • Encourages parent participation in the program.

To ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant needs

  • Assesses program supplies and materials needed before implementing activities.
  • Coordinates and helps supervise aides and volunteers working in the classroom.
  • Maintains written plans on a weekly basis.
  • Assesses children’s needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Uses the results of assessment to plan activities.
  • Maintains a portfolio of work for each child that documents child’s growth.
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of accidents, illnesses, medication, attendance, observations, assessments, and family conferences.

To maintain a commitment to professionalism

  • Promotes the center’s mission, philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Supports the center’s code of ethical conduct
  • Show sensitivity and respect for the cultural and ethnic diversity of clients, staff and other community members and groups.
  • Assists in maintaining center appearance internally and externally.
  • Engages in ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional skills.
  • Supports the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information.
  • Participates in staff meetings. Workshops, and in-service training provided by the center.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, notify supervisor as soon as possible in the case of absence or lateness.
  • Interacts with colleagues, families, and center visitors in a pleasant, professional manner to promote a harmonious work and team environment.
  • May need to take on additional duties in the absence of the Center Director.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is most frequently moderate but occasionally loud. May be required to clean up/deal with bodily fluids.
