Alper JCC Miami is on the lookout for talented and enthusiastic individuals to fill the position of Summer Camp Specialist. If you're ready to lead and guide children in an exciting Specialty area, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for!

POSITION:
Summer Camp STEM Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
Entering at least Junior year in College with knowledge and ability in the Specialty Field.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and guide groups of children, ages 5-13, in STEM Specialty activities, including hands-on experiments.
  • Become aware of the camp's philosophy and objectives and work toward their fulfillment
  • Be a positive role model, in actions, manners, and language.
  • Display enthusiasm, initiative, patience, self-control, and sense of humor.
  • Arrive on time and maintain good attendance.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attendance and participation at pre-camp orientation is mandatory, except when there are scholastic responsibilities which preclude attendance.
  • Responsible for planning for groups of campers, ages 5-13. Have the desire to have fun working and playing with campers in a day camp setting.
  • a. Plan age appropriate, engaging activities for the group;
  • b. Build relationships with campers and encourage their development of positive relationships with their peers;
  • c. Help campers become more aware of their environment and better able to act independently; and
  • d. Help campers gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their ability.
  • e. Request needed materials in advance.
  • f. Complete and turn in activity plans 2-3 weeks before weekly activities.
  • Supervise and responsible for health, hygiene, safety and personal belongings of campers.
  • Help with all camp Special Events and Staff Orientation.
  • Desire and ability to work with all Camp J Staff. Direct bunk counselors on how to support specialty activities.
  • Carry out assigned carpool responsibilities.
  • Turn in weekly newsletter information.
  • Staff members are expected to read the Staff Manual and be familiar with the camp rules and regulations. Staff members are expected to cooperate fully with the Camp Director in these rules and any others that may be added during the camp season, for the good of all concerned.
  • Complete any required grant activities and data collection, if applicable.
  • Attend all meetings as directed, including weekly staff meetings.
  • Have open and positive communication with Unit Supervisor and Camp Director.
  • Represent and be an ambassador for the Alper JCC & Youth Department
  • Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Camp Director.
SKILLS:
  • Ability to differentiate lesson plans based on the needs of the campers.
  • Ability to engage campers through multiple modalities.
