PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform mechanical, metallographic, elemental, and corrosion experiments that quantify material properties and their quality.
· Mechanical: perform tensile testing, charpy impact testing, superficial hardness testing.
· Metallography: perform specimen preparation and characterization of sample.
· Corrosion: perform solution preparation, sample etching, and experimental setup.
2. Perform data analysis from experiment results:
· Interprets procedures, specifications, and drawings to determine if product meets standards.
· Calculation of approximate and actual ultimate tensile strength, tensile yield, impact toughness, average grain size number, corrosion rates, and elemental composition.
3. Input and preservation of experiment data:
· Maintain accurate and organized logging of acquired sample data.
· Track and maintain awareness of coupon/test status in order to communicate failures quickly and release product for shipment to customer.
· Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs, summarizes re-work and waste, and inputs data into quality database to create required documentation.
· Maintain and organize test results, heat charts, x-ray reports and other documentation, as necessary.
4. Housekeeping:
· Maintain a high level of laboratory cleanliness.
· Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
5. Collect equipment that needs calibration from various departments.
6. Professionalism:
· Technicians are expected to always adhere to proper safety protocols.
· Expected to exhibit a high level of professionalism and willingness to continually learn.
· Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide on the job training to new employees as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
Detail oriented and high organization skills.
Ability to utilize and read quality inspection equipment accurately.
Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, steel toed work boots, and gloves.
PPE REQUIRED
Safety glasses, ear protection, steel toed boots, and gloves. Use of grinder/cutting torch equipment requires face shield or goggles.
