Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate that has the technical ability to be adept at advancing the skills and abilities of junior technicians through training and mentorship. They must be able to fit within the culture of the team and bring a positive attitude in the trials and rigor required in consulting engineering. They must have the personal acumen, dedication and desire to build teams and have a good understanding of how to collaborate with other offices and structures to keep within the one team corporate personality of Allnorth.

A Day in the Life

This role will be based in Grande Prairie, Alberta and provide services to northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia.You will conduct a wide variety of laboratory and field testing on aggregate, soils, concrete and grout, compaction and site conditions monitoring. This role executes field testing activities and works primarily within a small crew to provide quality control/quality assurance. You will collect, prepare and review field notes and relate data for presentation to clients or supervisors.

In addition, the Materials Testing Group Lead will attend client meetings (safety, quality and contractual), manage daily work schedules, address issues from field activities, and perform equipment calibrations/certifications. Train and mentor junior staff and be able to contribute to the management of the office with the Operational Lead and other managers in the office.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Minimum of 7 years of related materials testing experience
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology / Degree in Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in sampling and testing of concretes both field and laboratory
  • Experience in the sampling techniques, testing and reporting of Asphalt placements and mixes
  • Experience in sampling and testing of soils
  • Experience in sampling and testing of aggregates in the stages from production to placement.
  • Experience in field densities using a variety of volumetric displacement methods and Nuclear gauges.
  • Experience in rebar inspection is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical abilities
  • Technical competence and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead field staff and schedule workloads, manage safety metrics and lab certifications
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts is required and willingness to work in remote sites for extended periods of time
  • A valid driver’s license is required for this position
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a criminal background check, pre-employment medical & drug testing, and education verification.
