Job Description

Allergan Aesthetics Biological Research group in Irvine, CA is seeking a highly motivated candidate with a focus on cell biology and in vitro pharmacology who will contribute to multi-disciplinary research in a highly collaborative environment. The successful candidate will support projects aimed at pharmacological characterization of protein-based therapeutics. He/she will design and conduct a variety of in vitro and cell-based assays to evaluate the activity and functionality of therapeutic proteins. The candidate will be a technical expert who will independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods/ techniques to address critical project needs. He/she will continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.
  • Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respond.
  • Perform data analysis, write scientific reports, and provide presentations to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work with cross-functional team members to accomplish the goals and requirements of the organization.
  • Innovate and implement new experimental protocols.
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in his/her field.
  • Set and meet experimental timelines.
  • Learn, understand, and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for others.
  • Routinely read and apply relevant scientific literature. Contribute to writing and conceptual framework of publications, presentations, and patents. Effectively organize and present scientific plans and data.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug, and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable

Qualifications


Job Qualifications (minimum requirements):

  • Strong experience with, and knowledge of in vitro pharmacological cell-based assays.
  • Working knowledge of neuroscience, in vitro biochemical and molecular assays.
  • Extremely organized with documentation of experimental plans, timelines, and technical reports.
  • Experience contributing to technical reports and regulatory documents is an advantage.
  • Understanding of standard statistical analysis of scientific data using data software tools.
  • Detailed oriented and precise in written and oral communication.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to critically analyze data and lead teams to solve issues and make best strategic decisions.
  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse groups within the organization.
  • Help create an inclusive environment where diverse ideas, viewpoints and backgrounds are valued.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with typically 5 years of experience, or master’s degree or equivalent education with typically two years of experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology, or other related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge and technical expertise in mammalian cell culture, iPSC-derived cell models, primary cell culture, western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), MSD, Luminex and RT-PCR.
  • Strong skill in multiparameter flow cytometry and cell sorting is preferable.
  • Experience with co-culture and organoid culture techniques highly preferred.
  • Broad experience in developing, performing, and troubleshooting a wide variety of cell-based assays. Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment.
  • The position requires ability to work in biosafety cabinets for extended periods of time, observe/record deviations from expected outcomes, accurate record keeping, and adhere to lab safety standards/protocols.
  • Demonstrated scientific writing skills and strong verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills: working knowledge of MS-Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), graphing software (e.g., GraphPad prism) and basic understanding of statistical analyses is required.
