Job Description
PRE-DOCTORAL PRACTICUM
STUDENT IN PSYCHOLOGY (ASSESSMENT PRACTICUM)
Department: Allen County Juvenile Center-Diagnostics FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Classification/Level: Part-time Date Last Reviewed: 6/2022
Under the direction of the Director of Diagnostics/Psychologist, the Pre-Doctoral Practicum Student in Psychology assists in the mental health diagnostics and treatment functions for juveniles in the Allen County Superior Court Family Relations Division, including, but not limited to, completing mental health and substance abuse evaluations and psychological evaluations. This position is covered under the Superior Court Employee Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Administers psychological assessments and provide assessment reports, including treatment and placement recommendations, to the Court, of youth and their caregivers, as ordered by the Court or as directed by the Director of the Diagnostic Unit or the Director of Detention.
  • Collaborates with obtaining any pertinent records; reviewing pertinent records, to assist in planning Psychological Assessment administration; psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation; clinical interviewing; report writing; providing treatment and placement recommendations to the Court. Schedule and review of report information with caregivers, as requested, per policy.
  • Assess the juvenile’s mental health needs and assist in coordinating transfer to inpatient mental health facility, as needed, pr policy.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports, as required.
  • Reviews juveniles’ records for past testing and basic test results and mental health issues.
  • Prepares and conducts various accepted diagnostic tests including scoring and interpreting test results.
  • Consults with Judicial Officials, Probation, and Correctional Staff in formal and informal situations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be a student working towards a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and completing their practicum coursework
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Working knowledge in applying standard psychological theories
  • Working knowledge of recommended and approved diagnostic tests including experience with Rorschach Inkblot Method (ADOS-2 a Plus)
  • Experience with the application of crisis intervention. psychological assessment techniques
  • Follow the American Psychological Association Code of Ethics and all Federal and State Laws and Regulations regarding professional practice and confidential information
  • Valid Driver’s License to drive to and from various Allen County
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related computer software programs
  • Strong written and verbal skills, including technical writing skills needed for report writing
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
The Pre-Doctorate Practicum Student in Psychology maintains frequent contact with other County employees, interns, juveniles, and their families concerning mental health diagnostic and treatment functions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Pre-Doctorate Practicum Student in Psychology works in a standard office environment with frequent sitting and the ability to move about freely. Frequent mental/visual effort and detailed inspection exist and very frequent typing, attention to detail, monitoring equipment and proofreading is to be expected. The Pre-Doctoral Practicum Student in Psychology has frequent contact with potential violent youth.
