Job Summary:
Organizes and administers areas of Patient Care Services to attain the facility’s objectives established by the governing authority.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Organizes programs, policies and procedures that are developed to assess, evaluate the meet the needs of the patient.

Implements standards of nursing practice annually reviewing and revising as necessary to reflect changes in nursing practice; ensures that nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current nursing research, finding and nationally recognized professional standards.

Addresses and support a cultural practice as long as such, practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.

Clear, concise and current written policies and procedures are available to assist the staff and minimize risk factors, implements the findings of current research from nursing and other literature into the policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care.

Recommends modifications, additions or deletions of personnel policies to insure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide patient care coverage; provides for a sufficient number of appropriately qualified nursing staff members to care for patients.

Initiates and participates in problem solving, policy forming conferences for patient care services. Maintains close coordination with all departments to insure continuity and collaboration of services. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Participates with Governing Body, management, medical staff and clinical leaders in the facility’s decision-making process.

Plan and recommends to CEO new facilities or equipment or modifications thereto needed to provide patient care; develops organization wide patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patient’s nursing care needs or populations receiving nursing care are assessed, evaluated and met.

Serves as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care; collaborates with other hospital leaders in designing and providing patient care and services.

Develops and implements the organizations plans for providing care to those patients requiring nursing care.

Participates in Medical Staff departmental meetings.

Plans and coordinates with the CFO, utilizing the respective service managers for planning the budgeting requirements for personnel, performance of work, supplies and equipment; ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing service to patients.

Implements effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.

Each nursing department’s performance improvement activities are reported to the facility-wide performance improvement committee and medical staff committees as appropriate.

Assures that nursing leaders review monthly performance improvement compliance with established indicators and see that corrective actions are taken when negative outcomes are identified.

Collaborates with facility leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising and monitoring facility-wide performance improvement activities.

Requirements:


Regulatory Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license by this state as a registered nurse.
  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management or Nursing or minimum 5 years prior experience in patient care services.
