ROLE TITLE : Printing Services Technician
REPORTS TO : Director of Retail Operations
Summary of Position
The Printing Services Technician is responsible for all aspects of the college’s printing services operation, including execution of work requests through the operation of high speed printers and all manners of finishing equipment.
This position is part of the cross-functional Retail Operations team which includes the college post office, print services, and the Merriman Campus Store.
It will be necessary to work in all areas of the team at times, therefore cross training will be provided. This position operates in a fast paced environment with integral deadlines and requires interfacing with diverse customers such as students, faculty, employees and community members.
What you will do in this role :
Manage the daily workflow to maintain on time job completion with high level accuracy. Develop and implement print shop operating policies and procedures, establish printing standards, specifications and management control.
Manage Print Shop requests; plan, organize, and prioritize college print work orders by complexity and due date, establish and meet deadlines.
Review print shop requests to prioritize workload by job complexity, and due date; group jobs requiring similar specifications, paper size and weight, etc.
to minimize changes in equipment set up, maximize efficiency and productivity and control costs. Monitor print material inventory to ensure minimum stocking levels are maintained and required items are available to execute all tasks in a timely and effective manner.
Order supplies and materials as required. Drive continuous process improvement by actively seeking education and training on current trends and best practices.
Using the printing / finishing equipment, complete all printing requests and perform quality control for all jobs. Ensure compliance with all Licensing requirements.
Apply knowledge of graphic design, printing and bindery techniques along with sign making methods to create and produce printed items that balance cost-effectiveness with quality and meet the timeline requirements of customers.
Train and advise staff on work methods and techniques in operations of print shop equipment. Monitor work processes to assure quality, conformance to specifications, and timely completion.
Ensure safety procedures are followed with any equipment with potential for hazard.
Liaise with customers to ensure proper understanding of job requirements, costs and lead times. Assist customers with job layout, paper stock selection, and work order preparation.
Collaborate and coordinate with the Information Technology department to ensure all technology standards are met. Monitor trends and new technology for all areas of the printing operations.
Make recommendations to the Director of Retail Operations to keep printing operations current and provide continuous process improvement.
Perform setup and routine maintenance of all printing / finishing equipment. Troubleshoot and maintain finishing and printing equipment.
Plan, research, recommend and assist in the purchase of printing and finishing equipment to meet the future printing and copying needs of the college.
Ensure cleanliness of area and equipment safeguarding quality control measures.
Prepares price quotation and print shop request changes when needed. Maintains required records and files as necessary and complete monthly departmental chargebacks Prepares price quotation and print shop request changes when needed.

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience. This is a non-exempt position. The expected hourly range starting point for this position is $17.00.
