Position Purpose

A versatile position within a dynamic nonprofit that provides community-inspired, volunteer-powered disaster relief. The Rapid Response Manager is responsible for acting as the lead on the ground for the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) in Rapid Response, deployed to assist in post-disaster assessments and program start-up after disaster events. This role is focused in the US with the need to rapidly deploy after hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and other weather related events and act as the focal point for All Hands and Hearts in a management role. The role will be responsible for coordinating the team on the ground and liaising with the larger Response Team in regards to team management, health and safety, finance, data tracking, and reporting.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to  Response Manager
  • Roles reporting to position Response Coordinator(s) and Volunteer Team Leaders
  • Approximate number of reports 1-4

Essential Functions 

  • Support the Response Manager with disaster assessment and program development by:
    • Deploying at short notice to respond in post disaster environments
    • Lead rapid responses through coordinating community assessments, home assessments, and other assessments for All Hands and Hearts response work as necessary
    • Recruit and manage additional Team Leaders and volunteers to deploy on the rapid response
    • Coordinate logistics of rapid response including tool transport, vehicle rental, and movement of personnel as needed
    • Oversee the health and safety of the team including contingency planning and emergency communications
    • Oversight of data tracking and monitoring of volunteer hours and work outputs.
    • Reporting back to the Response Manager and wider organization in regards to reporting outputs, compiling data, producing situational reports, and linking to other departments as needed
    • Building relationships with local emergency management agencies and NGOs
    • Creating situation reports on disaster events and program strategy 
    • Communicate tasks and expectations clearly to team members; provide effective technical training and constructive feedback when necessary to ensure compliance with project safety and quality standards
    • Track all expenses and manage operating budget of the rapid response, with support of the Response Manager, ensuring compliance with approved budget
  • We have decided to relax the requirement for Covid-19 vaccination for on program staff. While we still strongly recommend Covid-19 vaccination, along with other standard and travel immunizations as recommended by the CDC and WHO, Covid-19 vacation will no longer be required
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Commitment through November 2024. Home-based when not deployed. 

Position Requirements

  • Education  High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Related Experience 6 months experience leading teams in a post-disaster or similar setting. Experience in working with NGOs, All Hands and Hearts, Americorps, DARTs, or similar settings required. Familiarity with the Incident Command System preferred.
  • Special Competencies/Certifications  Must be legally authorized to work in the US.. Sawyer experience preferred. Valid driver's license required. Good written and oral communication skills and confidence working with Google Workspace, particularly Google Docs and Google Sheets; and, Microsoft Office. The individual needs to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately. The individual is able to manage a large workload while prioritizing healthy boundaries and authentic self-care. Good listener, capable of being compassionate and understanding with homeowners, partners, and the community.   • Constantly works in outdoor adverse weather conditions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation Typical starting range: $36,000 - $37,875 USD, which will be based on skills and experience.
