Job Title: NOC Shift Supervisor

Reports To: Director of Residential Services

Summary: The NOC (Night) Shift Supervisor supports the activities of the Men’s and Women’s treatment programs, which provide high-quality substance abuse recovery services for people who are struggling with addictions to alcohol and other drugs by assisting them in achieving identified goals. The NOC Shift Supervisor provides support with the documentation process as directed by the Program Managers and Director of Residential Services. The supervisor works to ensure the NOC shift runs smoothly and that employees utilizes their time efficiently. Provides participant supervision of the residential programs and oversees tasks that are part of the day-to-day operation of the programs.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist Director of Residential Services and Program Manager(s) in the management of day-to-day operations of the department to ensure quality care and fidelity to funding grants and contracts.
  • Facility Management Oversight.
  • Supervise employees on all NOC activities.
  • Making sure the programs are in CARF compliance, including Policy and Procedures maintenance.
  • Conduct monthly Safety drills in conjunction with and collaboration with Safety Committee and guidelines.
  • Facilitate Crisis Management activities when necessary.
  • Assist in the completion of data entry.
  • Supervise and monitor participant activities, must always account for participant’s whereabouts.
  • Participant census count must be documented and recorded throughout the overnight hours.
  • Conduct body and property searches of participants in accordance with the search policy and procedure.
  • Perform UA testing of participants in accordance with the UA testing policy and procedure.
  • Perform medication monitoring. Controlled medication counts. Perform audits of medications for refill needs.
  • Work with the counseling team in monitoring medications, ordering, tracking refills, and completing required documentation.
  • Assist in daily cleanliness of the units by overseeing and ensuring participants clean up after themselves (i.e., after meals, group rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms).
  • Assist treatment team with integrating and coordinating services across mental health, SUD, and health care sectors.
  • Attending assigned training, required staff meetings, and is responsible for continuing education and professional development as part of a commitment to provide quality services.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members regarding participant behavior, progress, activities, etc.
  • Professional conduct regarding attire, language, disposition, and behavior.
  • Exhibits knowledge and support of the philosophy and objectives of the agency.
  • Provide participant transportation as needed.
  • Provide ongoing recovery support guidance in such areas as Matrix, 12 steps, housing, employment, and other relevant community services.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and procedures and federal laws.
  • Encourage participants to develop independent behavior based on choice rather than compliance.
  • Demonstrate consistency by supporting participants during ordinary and extraordinary times.
  • Assist participants in combatting negative self-talk, overcoming fears, and learning how to problem solve.
  • Act as a role model for wellness and recovery and provide peer support that is mutual and respectful.
  • Understand and abide by the Code of Ethics and Participant Rights policies.
  • Maximize learning opportunities by remaining receptive to constructive feedback and utilizing support available from your supervisor and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Primary Objectives:

  • Maintain a good knowledge and understanding of CLARE|MATRIX’s mission, vision, & philosophy.
  • Contribute to a healthy work environment and actively participate in meetings and team building activities.
  • Communicate on a direct and timely basis about needs and problems as they arise.
  • Ensure standards of conduct are upheld to CLARE|MATRIX standards.
  • Ensure a community environment is maintained to CLARE|MATRIX standards.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are upheld to CLARE|MATRIX standards.

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

The ideal candidate will have knowledge in a substance abuse treatment center setting. In addition, the following are strongly desired/ required experience:

  • Certified AOD Counselor with minimum of 2 years’ experience in residential setting a must.
  • Possess an understanding of the issues of substance use and mental health.
  • Must be able to stay awake through the full length of the shift.
  • Clean driving record, class C driving license, and reliable transportation required. Driving is a requirement.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population.
  • Computer knowledge (Excel, Word, Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Record)

Medical History:

All employees whose functions require or necessitate contact with a client or food preparation shall complete a health screening report or a health questionnaire. Health screening reports or health questionnaires will be provided upon hire. For all residential employees a health screening report, be completed and signed by a medical practitioner signature for clearance. All outpatient employees will complete at minimum a self-report screening questionnaire.

TB tests are to be conducted under licensed medical supervision not more than 60 calendar days prior to or 7 calendar days after employment and renewed annually from the date of the last tuberculosis test. Staff with a known record of tuberculosis or record of positive testing shall not be required to obtain a tuberculosis skin test. Unless there is documentation that the staff completed at least 6 months of preventive therapy, the staff shall be required to obtain, within 45 calendar days of employment, a chest x-ray result and a physician’s statement that incumbent does not have communicable tuberculosis and has been under regular care and monitoring for tuberculosis. A chest x-ray within the prior 6 months is acceptable. The physician’s statement shall be renewed annually.

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
