Algiers Charter is Hiring a Theatre Teacher-Elementary Near Orleans, LA

What Success Means In This Position
The Theater Teacher position is an exempt, 10 month position. These are items for this position continued monitoring and success:
  • Provides talented students with appropriate learning experiences designed to fulfill potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and lead to advanced academic achievement.
  • Provide support services for talented theater students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, working in collaboration with administrators and teachers to provide a supplemental support for increasing advanced student achievement for all students, specifically gifted and talented students, through staff development, instructional planning, and classroom support for teachers of homogeneously grouped GT classes, both a pull-out and push-in program.
Algiers Charter approach to teaching and learning embraces a continuous improvement cycle that focuses on practices through planning, doing, reflecting, and revising. Our schools are moving to a more complex conceptual framework of analyzing, synthesizing, hypothesizing, understanding, and creating connections on a daily basis.
Position Description & Expectations
  • Knowledge of the educational needs of theater talented students
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of talented students
  • Ability to design and implement interdisciplinary units of study ability to use open-ended and problem solving approaches of instruction
  • Flexibility and confidence in working with gifted students, their parents, classroom teachers, and multiple principals
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
  • Knowledge of assessment principles and design
  • Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of theater talented students
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the gifted and talented program.
  • Teach/demonstrate the integration of LEAP 2025 assessment expectations within the overall instructional program of gifted students.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of gifted students based on the district's goals and objectives.
  •  Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
  •  Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media which meet the needs and capabilities of students.
  • Conduct student assessments and adapt curriculum and lesson plans accordingly, providing differentiation and/or extensions of lessons.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies.
  • Build professional relationships with colleagues, community, and parents.
  • Develop and revise gifted curriculum.
  • Assist teachers in developing and providing theater students with enriched or alternative course work through curriculum modification, compacting, etc.
  • Travel as required to fulfill responsibilities of the job.
  • Participate in campus professional learning communities (PLCs), attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Develop IEPs and track student progress to achieve the goals set forth by their IEP, including planning and conducting IEP Team meetings.
  • Structures schedules accordingly to maximize inclusion and academic success.
  • Monitors student cases and IEPs/documentation to ensure 100% compliance at all times.
  • Keeps accurate attendance and educational records for each child.
  • Any other assignments deemed appropriate by the principal.
Student Engagement
  • Most if not, all students complete instructional tasks, volunteer responses and/or ask appropriate questions.
  • Most if not, all students follow behavioral expectations and/or directions.
  • Students execute transitions, routines and procedures in an orderly and efficient manner with minimal direction or narration from the teacher.
  • Class has a quick pace and students are engaged in the work of the lesson from start to finish. Students who finish early engage in meaningful learning without interrupting other students' learning.
  • Performs other duties that may be required.
Essential Content
  • Create common core aligned lesson plans and unit plans that lead to standards mastery and are aligned to grade level expectations and end-of-year assessments.
  • The lesson focuses on content that advances students toward grade-level standards or above.

Academic Ownership
  • Most if not, all students provide meaningful oral or written evidence to support their thinking.
  • Students complete an appropriately challenging amount of the cognitive work during the lesson, such as reading, writing, discussion, analysis, computation, or problem solving, given the focus of the lesson.
  • Students respond to and build on their peers’ thinking, ideas or answers.
  • Students routinely provide constructive feedback to their classmates and respond productively when a peer answers a question incorrectly or when they do not agree with the response. 
Demonstration of Learning
  • Questions, tasks or assessments yield data that allow the teacher to assess students’ progress toward learning goals and help pinpoint where understanding breaks down.
  • Students have extensive opportunities to express learning through academic writing and/or explanations using academic language.
  • All students demonstrate how well they understand lesson content and their progress toward learning goals through their work and/or responses.
  • Student responses, work and interactions demonstrate that all students are on track to achieve stated or implied learning goals.
  •  Performs other duties that may be required.
Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree
  • Two years of teaching experience
  • Valid Louisiana Certification in Talented Theater is required
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate is preferred
  • Proven record of high student achievement as listed on previous evaluations and Compass scores (highly preferred)
  • Desire and ability to succeed in a student-friendly, detail-oriented, community environment.
  • Belief in the Algiers Charter mission and educational model 
  • Open to professional learning, formal/informal observations, and feedback
