PET CARE PROFESSIONAL needed 7 am - 10 pm, 15-30 hours per week:

Alexandria Pet Care seeks an experienced pet caregiver to join our diverse and inclusive Fear-Free certified team, doing expert dog walking and pet sitting primarily weekends, and some weekdays.

We work with special needs pets and healthy animals of all types, in their homes.

Work 15-40 hours a week between 7am and 10pm, 365.

• Must have 1 years prior animal experience, such as volunteer or paid job in veterinary, dog training, animal behavior, fostering, rescue, doggie day care, or other.
• Able and willing to care for medically needy, fearful, anxious, and behaviorally needy pets, after Fear Free Certified® pet sitter training
• Especially experienced at handling large dogs, leash-reactive dogs, dogs who need oral medications, and strong dogs who pull on leash.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Live inside our service area: must live in one of our zip codes: 22314, 22301, 22302, 22303, 22304, 22305, 22306, 22307, 22308, 22309. Also 22310 considered.
• Have prior volunteer or paid pet experience
• Want be a top professional pet sitter for our community

COVID VACCINATION REQUIRED:

We’re a 100% COVID-vaccinated pet care team. All candidates provide documentation of vaccination dates before scheduling an interview. New hires must have a bivalent booster and flu vaccination before beginning work.

• $18-$21 per hour weekdays / $27-$31 time-and-a-half all weekends and holidays

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Working in a diverse and inclusive virtual team: ability to bring positive and inclusive teamwork skills to our virtual team, supportive communications over email and in person, excellent advance planning and organizational skills
• Showing career experience with animals: from one year to fifty years of work experience in animal-focused environments that have given you special skills
• Restraining pets and administering medication: must be practiced in asthma inhalers, oral medicine pilling cats and dogs of all sizes and temperaments, topical prescriptions, and administering insulin.
• Handling dogs on leash or dog training experience: expert leash handling skills for all dogs especially of large breeds and dogs who pull, puppies learning leash skills, and behavior management of anxious and leash reactive dogs
• Caring calmly and carefully for all pets of all types (able to care for indoor pets: birds, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, fancy rats, exotics)
• Understanding behaviors and personalities of pets in order to know what’s unusual or worrisome for a particular animal and to know how to tailor your own behavior and actions
• Able to follow precise instructions and work from detailed lists to care for each animal as an individual, with their personalized needs and preferences
