ALBERTINA KERR CENTERS is Hiring a Behavior Specialist Near Hillsboro, OR

Albertina Kerr empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health challenges and other social barriers to lead self-determined lives and reach their full potential!

As a Behavior Specialist, you'll be responsible for implementing and monitoring systems that support people who perform challenging behaviors. You'll facilitate health/safety, enhance people's quality of life, help them lead their desired lifestyles and gain increased levels of independence, productivity, and social/physical integration.

This position may require evening and weekend availability.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the person, their family, program staff, management, and ISP team members to develop and implement behavior support plans and data collection/tracking.
  • Performs comprehensive functional assessments. Completes interviews, direct observation, and record reviews to generate hypotheses about the causes and functions of problematic behaviors.
  • Identifies relevant support services.
  • Writes, monitors, and modifies ongoing, positive behavioral supports as indicated in the Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) and based upon the needs of the individual. Recommends environmental modifications. Ensures tracking is set up. Works with managers and program staff for behavioral issues. Works with the Individual Support Plan (ISP) team.
  • Provides training of PBSPs (and other behavior related support documents and when updates go into effect. Observes staff interactions and models appropriate interactions. Teaches Oregon Intervention System (OIS) training to staff .
  • Attends monthly program staff meetings and ensures OIS is practiced or reviewed.
  • Provides skills training to individuals on caseload. Builds skills in areas such as anger management, conflict resolution, stress reduction, self-esteem, social skills, care giver and child interactions, and peer interactions.
  • Monitors agency compliance to behavior related responsibilities and with the state psychiatric review board.
  • Provides ongoing consultation to program administrators, coordinators, and managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be proficient in the English language.
  • Maintain a current, approved criminal background check specific to their role as a behavior professional.
  • Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours each biennium of ongoing education in the field of positive behavior support services, adaptive behaviors, behavior management, or a related topic.
  • Ability to meet all reference and driving requirements.
  • Current certified as or eligible to become a Qualified Mental Health Associate.
  • Computer literacy with experience using Windows applications (Outlook, Word) and ability to learn other program and applications (EPIC, Excel, Teams, Zoom, etc.)
  • Certification as an Oregon Intervention Systems trainer is preferred.

Must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Possess a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) graduate-level certification in in behavior analysis and one year of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Possess a Master of Arts, or a Master of Science, in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent as evidenced by providing transcripts indicating applicable coursework, and one year of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Possess a Bachelor of Arts, or a Bachelor of Science, in psychology, sociology, human services, education, social work, or the equivalent as evidenced by providing transcripts indicating applicable coursework, and three (3) years of experience using positive behavior support services with individuals who experience intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • No Qualifying Degree: A minimum of six (6) years of experience performing professional behavior services using positive behavior support services gained prior to January 1, 2023, and no less than three (3) letters of reference from case management entities who have approved Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) or PBSPs authored by the applicant.
