Albany County Department of Health is Hiring a Dental Assistant Near Albany, NY

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine work involving assisting the dentist in treatment of dental patients. The work is performed under immediate supervision of a dentist and /or a Dental Hygienist. Does related work as required

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

· Assists the dentist by handling the dental instruments when needed;

· Sterilizes instruments needed in the preparation of dental extractions and fillings;

· Assists the dentist in taking, developing and cleaning x-rays of patients;

· Mixes various types of fillings;

· Prepares gauze packs;

· Schedules and makes appointments for dental work;

· Performs routine clerical duties such as keeping records of dental examinations, conditions found and treatments.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

· Ability to acquire a knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, procedures and equipment;

· Working knowledge of personal hygiene;

· Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;

· Ability to work with patients;

· Ability to get along with others;

· Dexterity;

· Mental alertness;

· Neat appearance;

· Tact and courtesy;

· Good physical condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English and follow written and spoken instructions.

“In addition to contractual COLA increases, the annual salary of $40,952 will increase by $400 on the anniversary date for three years.”
