Summary:

Under general direction of the Behavioral Health Director, or their designee, and direct supervision of a licensed behavioral health clinician, provides behavioral health services as a collaborative and valued member of a behavioral health treatment team. Services provided may include behavioral health outreach, screening, assessment, as well as individual and group treatment.

Responsibilities:

Under clinical supervision, delivers behavioral health services as a valued and collaborative member of a behavioral health treatment team in compliance with Alaska State Medicaid regulations, Division of Behavioral Health clinical regulations, and all local, state, and federal health regulations and policies.

Gathers information to help build a holistic understanding of a client’s needs and the behavioral health factors that might be contributing to a client’s overall wellbeing. This may include screening and assessment of: mental health, substance use, historical and contemporary trauma, social and family dynamics, personal and cultural values, beliefs, and behaviors, and other health values, beliefs, and behaviors.

Applies screening and assessment information to job duties. This might include coordinating client care, treatment planning, and/or delivery of group or individual intervention. Maintains records consistent with organizational Policy and Procedures, gathers required program data, completes reports, and submits such data and reports in a timely manner.

Ensures that confidential material/records/correspondence is kept secure and that individual client confidentiality is maintained according with HIPPA and 42 CFR requirements.

Advocates for client rights and actively seeks and accepts supervision. Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Behavioral Health Aide Code of Ethics, professional standards, agency policies, and the law. Demonstrates healthy and appropriate professional boundaries and behavior.

Completes s pecific training, practicum, and job duties that support the advancement of BHA certification. Such requirements are detailed in the Community Health Aide Practitioner Certification Board (CHAPCB) Standards and Procedures.

Performs all duties in a respectful, kind, safe, timely, equitable, and client-centered fashion in order to help clients achieve wellness and autonomy consistent with their level of functioning.

Facilitate individual, family, and group counseling/psychotherapy.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skill in analyzing safety issues and preparing recommendations based on findings.

Skill in providing and maintaining accurate documentation in the client health record and appropriate use of different documentation format.
Skill in identifying crisis and reporting to licensed behavioral health clinician regarding crisis events.
Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships with clients and community members.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.

Skill in coordinating brief interventions and referrals to services

Behavioral Health Aide - Practitioner

· Skill in recognizing biological, psychological and social effects of medications.

· Skill in supervising and mentoring other Behavioral Health Aides.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Master’s degree (MA/MS) in Psychology, Social Work or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-Supervisory – Three (3) year experience in providing behavioral health clinical services, or working as a Behavioral Health Aide. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training, including maintaining Behavioral Health Aide – P certification, may be substituted for experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

· Experience in the Alaska Tribal Health System.

· Training or experience specific to substance abuse, mental health, behavioral health, or community wellness programs.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

BHA-P Certification

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must pursue an ongoing professional development plan including formal training certification as recommended by the department. If not already a certified BHA, must complete and maintain BHA certification within one year of hire with renewal every two years at employer’s expense.
