Duties & Responsibilities

• Program Leadership and Delivery • Teach and lead student participation in designated classes and programs throughout the day and evening hours, as well as provide instruction of appropriate behavior. • Attend 1-week training on camp policies and procedures including: ISYM policies, campus safety, emergency procedures, health and wellness, and fostering a positive and inclusive student environment for a diverse student body. • Ensure appropriate policies and guidelines outlined in the ISYM Counselor Handbook are followed to maintain the safety of the students, including travel to and from classes and meals. • Work with Director, Assistant Director and Head Counselor to develop programs and effective teaching methods to be used and assigned campers. • Evaluate teaching methods, programs and activities in designated classes to ensure effectiveness, impact and participation, as well as documenting and reporting those end of summer camp evaluations.
• Program Logistics • Monitor health and safety of assigned campers; includes being aware of those with special needs and discussing those needs with camp First Aid, Head Counselor, or Assistant Camp Director, as well as reporting incidents, accidents, or problems promptly to First Aid, Head Counselor, or Assistant Camp Director. • Provide basic First Aid to assigned campers: bandaids, OTC medicines listed on medical forms provided by parents/students, and in consultation with parents as applicable; seek medical care from licensed professionals at Carle Clinic to administer medications for headaches, upset stomachs or other medical concerns. • Oversee student registration and check-out from dorms. • Serve as counselor for overnight stays, maintain daily records of counselor office activities, communicate with parents to provide updates and resolutions, as well as ISYM Administration.
