Position Summary:

The Buyer is a member of the materials team. The team is typically comprised of the Materials Manager, Buyer and Materials Handler. The materials team is responsible for effectively executing the materials strategies of the organization within the business. The Buyer I reports to the Materials Manager.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assists the materials team with sourcing and expediting of materials for our service department. It is important to procure these items as quickly as possible because a vehicle is usually down and waiting for them.
  • They will help with the ordering and expediting "B" and "C" materials managed by the MRP.
  • Work with the suppliers to confirm delivery of upcoming materials as seen on the purchase orders. Enter these delivery promises in JDE and inform the responsible buyer as soon as possible if a delay is foreseen.
  • They will be responsible to insure non-conforming materials are identified and are accurately processed in a timely manner by working with the suppliers and the department that found the error.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Driven to take each situation from beginning to end, they take ownership of their projects.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, strong negotiating skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Must have good mathematical skills.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency with Excel, Word are required and JDEdwards preferred.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Lean Principles preferred.
  • Experience with "point of use" inventory, working in a team environment, the use of "pull" systems and new product development processes is a plus.
  • Self-driven, high energy, positive attitude. Works well with others, is respectful and trustworthy. Likes to challenge the status quo, takes risks, present new ways of doing things. Takes pride in their work and takes ownership in the success of the organization.
  • A natural forward planner who critically assess their own performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Two (2) years' experience in a similar role preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work extended hours when required.
  • 80% of the time in the office, 20% in the shop.
  • Travel is minimal.
