Performs and provides efficient clerical and switchboard services to AACOG departments. Work includes answering incoming calls and greeting visitors; preparing outgoing mail and distributing incoming mail; typing various correspondence and other documents; receiving and distributing faxes; processing documents. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Communicates with the public in person, by telephone, by email or regular correspondence, by fax, or over the Internet; may enter information into databases; process letters to customers and performs other general clerical services; Reviews and routes mail and other correspondence; Receives and processes applications, Creates and maintains activity logs. May train others. Maintain conference room schedule. Maintain lobby as a clean and professional environment.
Knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures; Skill in the use of standard office equipment and software; Ability to communicate and deal effectively with various groups; ability to follow oral & written instructions; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; knowledge of standard word processing and spreadsheet computer software; Excellent telephone skills.
Desired Degree/Job Experience: Experience in customer service, clerical, or administrative support work; Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred; Experience and education may be substituted for one another; Required bilingual fluency in both English and Spanish.
AACOG is a qualifying employer for the US Department of Education’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).

Defined as a political subdivision of the State of Texas, AACOG was established in 1967 under Chapter 391 of the Local Government Code as a voluntary association of local governments and organizations that serves its members through planning, information, and coordination activities. AACOG serves the Alamo Area/State Planning Region 18, which covers 13 counties and 12,582 square miles. Comprising the area planning region are Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, and Wilson counties. AACOG provides general technical assistance to m...ember governments in their planning functions, preparation of applications, and the administration of area-wide programs. In addition, program specific technical assistance for regional planning in the areas of aging services, economic development, 9-1-1 systems, homeland security, criminal justice, resource recovery, air quality, transportation, weatherization, and workforce is also offered. We also administer the Alamo Local Authority for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. In addition, AACOG sponsors special projects in response to local government needs or requests. Support for these activities is provided through local dues, state appropriations, state and federal grants that are matched by local monies, and other public and private funds.
