Alafia River Animal Hospital is seeking to hire an experienced receptionist/customer service representative. We are a two veterinarian, fast paced small animal hospital located about half an hour outside of Tampa. We offer both veterinary services and boarding. Summary
The receptionist provides the first impression of the hospital to clients and patients. The receptionist must be friendly, professional and courteous, and capable of handling many tasks at once with interruptions. The receptionist must remain calm while busy or when clients are upset. This is a fast-paced position with very little time to sit down. This position requires excellent customer service, good computer skills, basic math skills, and a team attitude. Punctuality is expected. Since the receptionists are occasionally called upon to assist with patients, the position requires an employee capable of lifting up to 40 lb. unaided and able to stand or walk for most of the day.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Greeting clients in a friendly manner
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files
  • Answering a 2-line phone system
  • Monitoring PetDesk for text messages and refill requests
  • Monitoring and responding to emails
  • Scheduling appointments for veterinarians, and/or boarding
  • Collecting payment for services rendered
  • Manage medical records, filing
  • Proficient with computers,
  • Experience with AviMark and PetDesk is a bonus.
Requirements/Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must be able to multi-task. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of experience working as a receptionist in a veterinary clinic environment
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, as well as all future random drug tests
  • Probation period of 3 months
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Reliable cell phone
  • Able to lift and carry 40 pounds safely
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor
  • Must have a team attitude, and be willing to help other staff in working towards a goal of excellent patient care
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, handle fluctuating priorities and multiple projects
