Job Description Title- JAG Specialist/Bridge Academy Virtual Teacher/Textbook Assistant

Reports To: Secondary Curriculum Coordinator, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

FLSA Designation: Exempt

Job Goal: To provide quality standards-based virtual and in-person instruction for all Bridge students and provide instruction while managing work-based learning experiences for JAG students and assist with textbook distribution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have or be able to obtain an Alabama teaching certificate in a core academic subject area
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning
  • Be able to work independently while collaborating with the home school of each student
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the JAG Program/Curriculum
  • Administrative Certification Preferred

  • The teacher is regularly required to speak, listen walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display.
  • The teacher may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, lift and/or move at least 50 pounds and push or pull at least 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

A teacher should expect to perform the following duties as part of his/her contractual obligations:

  • A teacher should adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Provide virtual and in-person instruction to students in the applicant’s area of certification
  • Design engaging, virtual lessons to teach course of study standards
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Instruction Program in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills
  • Coordinate and conduct interviews with potential Bridge students and their parents
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
  • Monitor the progress of students using Schoology and communicate with students and counselors regarding any lack of progress
  • Supervise students needing face-to-face assistance or study time
  • Assist with JAG interviews and assist students with JAG/Edmentum coursework
  • Attend the Leadership Conference and the State Department of Education training for JAG Specialists and attend all meetings to which are called by the Superintendent or supervisor
  • Conduct quarterly and “follow-up” interviews with former JAG students and submit required documentation to the SDE
  • Help JAG students prepare for and attend all district, state, and national competitions
  • Assist in the adoption, procurement, distribution, and inventory of textbooks.
  • Assess and communicate student progress to students and parents on a regular basis and provide progress reports as directed and maintain an open communication with students, parents, and staff. Provide students and parents with specific feedback and uses the data or test results to differentiate instruction.
  • Participate in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned; establishes appropriate testing environment and ensures test security.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned by the Superintendent or supervisor, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school district.

In all professional and personal relations, teachers shall be held in observance of a course of conduct consistent with the ethics of the teaching profession.

Terms of employment: 240-days

Daily work schedule will be determined by the Secondary Curriculum Coordinator. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

Salary:

Approved salary schedule for 12 Month Consulting Teachers (CP) is located on the Human Resources webpage.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees.
