Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring a COUNSELOR (OPELIKA LEARNING CENTER) Near Opelika, AL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling
  • Must hold an appropriate Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama
  • Child Protection Act of 1999 and ACT No. 2002-457

REPORTS TO: Principal

ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 207 Days (10 Months)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides comprehensive, developmental counseling and guidance services to all children.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates an annual local school counseling and guidance plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and consistent with the local system plan.
  • Develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the approved program.
  • Assists teachers, parents and students in determining the needs of each student by providing student appraisal services.
  • Analyzes and interprets test results to teachers, parents and students to provide information about abilities, achievement, interests and needs.
  • Assists teachers in identifying student deficiencies.
  • Assists students in planning programs of study.
  • Provides orientation for new students and parents.
  • Develops and implements a small group counseling program.
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of a group guidance program.
  • Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving and positive human relations skills.
  • Assists students in developing skills to understand their interests, aptitudes and values in planning for their life careers.
  • Provides appropriate placement and follow-up services for students.
  • Plans with teachers and principal to identify steps for modifying behavior of students.
  • Consults with parents, teachers and community resources about the special needs of students and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Assists teachers in removing learning obstacles of students.
  • Develops individualized professional growth plan.
  • Supervises collection and maintenance of appropriate student data for personal/social, educational and career/vocational development to assist in the curriculum development for school.
  • Abides by the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics.
  • Identifies resources for the guidance program.
  • Assists with the organization and implementation of parenting program, state mandated testing, student scheduling, credit recovery/unit recovery for school year and summer program.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administrator.
