Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring an Anticipated Principal Near Scottsboro, AL

TITLE: Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Alabama Administrative Certificate Master’s Degree from an Accredited Institution; Administrative or Supervisory experience required
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Education
SUPERVISES: Certified and support personnel in the school
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

JOB GOAL: To provide leadership for the professional staff of the school in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program and to administer the program in accordance with school board policies, administrative rules, and regulations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employee. Salary to be determined by terms and conditions of contract and based upon responsibilities, degree and years of experience.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the State Board of Education evaluation protocol for leaders/administrators.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Work with Superintendent to ensure that employment vacancies are posted. Conduct interviews for prospective teachers and make recommendations for employment to the Superintendent.
  • Provide ongoing, regularly scheduled consultation to the appropriate regular education and special education personnel in the school district.
  • Foster the success of all students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation and evaluation of a shared vision of learning that reflects excellence.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the school and system vision, mission, and goals.
  • Supervise the instructional programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on best practices for learning and student growth and development.
  • Establish procedures for evaluation and selection of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Employ a variety of processes for gathering, analyzing and using data for decision making.
  • Work with Central Office staff to develop and implement a school improvement plan as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers and instructional support personnel.
  • Promote effective communications and interpersonal relations among staff, parents, students and community members.
  • Maintain effective discipline and foster a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Model high expectations for students and staff.
  • Establish schedules and procedures for the supervision of students in non-classroom areas, including field trips and before and after school activities.
  • Use effective presentation skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community including appropriate vocabulary, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
  • Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory system for all school system/state/federally funded equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Develop clearly understood procedures and provide regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
  • Keep staff informed and seek and implement ideas for the improvement of the school.
  • Conduct faculty/staff/parent meetings as needed to inform or collaborate.
  • Plan and conduct professional development activities and sessions as needed.
  • Prepare school budget(s) in accordance with the Code of Alabama.
  • Comply with local, federal, and state directives regarding health issues and services.
  • Oversee the educational services and individual educational plans (IEP’s) of special needs students enrolled in the school.
  • Comply with state and federal guidelines regarding food services in the school.
  • Direct, supervise, or perform other program duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education.
