Alabama State Department of Education is Hiring an Anticipated Opening for Bookkeeper Near Carbon, AL

Classified Position - School Bookkeeper

Bookkeeper: Knowledge, skills, abilities required - Must be technologically proficient (utilize all office hardware and software), have the ability to learn and apply the Alabama State Department of Education Accounting/Finance Procedures; have a complete understanding of double entry accounting procedures; possess and display the ability to communicate and perform under pressure and meet deadlines; have and demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; interact well with other employees, vendors and the public; plan and organize work efficiently and effectively; develop and apply procedures as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to: Utilize "SIS PowerSchool" office and attendance programs; assist the principal in preparing, monitoring, amending, and reporting all school budgets; prepare monthly financial statements; perform all required accounting and related responsibilities; install and maintain all software and updates for accounting programs; perform clerical duties of the moderate variety and complexity; process purchase orders and maintain appropriate purchasing records; process and make vendor payments for accounts payable and maintain appropriate records; handle cash payments for accounts payable and maintain appropriate records; handle cash and make bank deposits; monitor bank accounts and prepare monthly bank reconciliations; prepare such forms and monthly reports as may be required for the Central Office; perform other such duties as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Chief School Financial Officer. A test may be given covering appropriate knowledge and skills. Should a test be required, all applicants will be provided timely and complete notice. The successful applicant must be willing to participate in all training sessions required by the Walker County School System and the Alabama State Department of Education. Must have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

**Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
