SEASONAL SIMULATIONS SUPERVISOR

OVERVIEW

Assist the Camp Operations management team in supervising Crew Trainer staff, trainees, and program activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

Program and Simulations Operations

  1. Meet or exceed the standards for the safety, security, hygiene, and emotional welfare of participants that may normally be expected of a firm and judicious parent.
  2. Assist in the accurate and timely coordination of simulation schedules ensuring that activities run effectively and efficiently for all programs and participants.
  3. Ensure that Crew Trainers receive timely, relevant, and appropriate training in the operation of mission simulators.
  4. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulations Manager for assisting in the development and implementation of simulator activities.
  5. Perform safety checks and complete required checklists before operating simulators to ensure effective and efficient levels of operation and safety.
  6. Promptly report any problems and malfunctions to the Simulations Manager or Simulations Technical staff for repair.
  7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment for participants and employees.
  8. Ensure the Simulations department has adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
  9. Meet or exceed the expectations of the Simulations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.
  10. Assist other departments in a timely, effective, and efficient manner as duties relate to the camp programs. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  11. Supervision of Camp Operations staff and trainees.
    1. Assist with discipline of Camp Operations Program trainees.
    2. Assist with registration and graduation.
    3. Monitor daily program activities. Conduct Program Briefings as required.
    4. Assist in addressing concerns brought by crew trainers.
    5. Assist with training new Camp Operations Crew Trainers.
    6. Assist with the enhancement/development of Camp Operations programs.
    7. Assist security with moving trainees to designated locations under the threat of severe weather and other emergencies.
    8. Assist museum staff personnel as needed.
    9. Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure that Camp Operations Programs have adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required/Preferred Education

  • 2 years of college is required.
  • A B.S. Degree in Management, Education Science, or a related field is preferred.

Required Experience

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with trainees and Crew Trainers.
  • Must be organized, professional, and action-oriented.
  • Must have the ability and patience to interact with people of all ages from children to adults.
  • Computer Experience: Must be able to use a 101-key keyboard and possess knowledge of Windows-based operating systems, including some basic associated software applications such as Excel and Microsoft Word.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments, and buildings, and to experience all areas of the training center floor and museum.
  • Swimming to engage in the activities portion of camp programs.
  • Standing for long periods (4-6 hours) directing Crew Trainers and trainees, conducting lectures, and operating simulators.
  • Pushing, carrying, and lifting boxes, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store and retrieve supplies.
  • Sight, reading, wrist movements, and feeling to operate simulators, review schedules, and write reports.
  • Talking and hearing to instruct Crew Trainers, and trainees, and assist guests in person and over the telephone.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment and building.
  • This position will involve walking to/from buildings in various weather conditions.
  • This position deals extensively with employees and guests who interact with assigned areas of responsibility.
  • This position interacts extensively with small children and adults.
  • This position will require the knowledge to effectively and efficiently operate all simulators designated by management.

Expected Hours of Work

As Space Camp is a 7-day-a-week operation, 7 days of availability is required.
