Alabama Space is Hiring a SPACE CAMP EDUCATION INTERN Near Huntsville, AL

EDUCATION VISUAL COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST INTERN

OVERVIEW

The purpose of this position is to assist the VP of Education in revising and standardizing the presentations used in Space Camp Programs. This will include standardizing the image resolution, video files, layout, and design of presentations. The presentations used in Camp programs contain critical educational content and need a design overhaul to increase visual appeal and engagement. The visual communication specialist will offer informed recommendations for increasing the dynamic engagement of each presentation that, with approval, will lead to the creation of crisp, engaging educational presentations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  1. Increase the Visual Appeal of Presentations
    1. Review existing presentations to understand educational goals and objectives.
    2. Working with existing content, recommend ways to improve visual appeal and educational impact of presentations.
    3. With approval, implement improvements to increase engagement and enhance educational impact.
    4. Where appropriate, identify alternative methods for presentation delivery.
    5. Identify presentation strategies to increase trainee participation in presentations through strategic use of technology.
  2. Standardize the Visual Aesthetic of Presentations 
    1. Create a template that provides flexibility in the information format presented (text, static image, video, etc.)
    2. Create an SOP for updating presentations using the template, concerning fonts, files, design elements, etc.
  3. Miscellaneous Departmental Tasks
    1. Contribute ideas for improving existing internal educational assets.
    2. With requirements, seek out digital assets to enhance presentations, activities, and shows in camp or museum education assets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of visual communication and graphic arts, whether through coursework, portfolio, or work experience.
  • Mastery of graphics programs and video editing.
  • Experience in graphic design, editing, and message production.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Web development is a plus.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to/from buildings to access other departments.
  • Sitting for long periods (4-6 hours) behind a desk.
  • Pushing, carrying, and lifting items, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds to waist high.
  • Sight, reading, wrist movements, and feeling to operate a computer terminal.
  • Talking, and hearing to instruct employees and assist guests and service providers in person and over the telephone.
  • This position interacts with guests of the Rocket Center.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Factors

  • This position involves working in a climate-controlled office environment.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Part-time, Monday through Friday
