Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches is Hiring a Director of Social Services Near Montgomery, AL

Purpose of Position:

The Director of Social Services oversees the social services provided to each child as they move through the therapeutic process including intake/admissions, individual, group and family counseling, discharge, and aftercare. They are instrumental in the oversight of crisis intervention, mediation, prevention, and development. The Director of Social Services ensures that the Ranch is compliant with all applicable Federal, State, and Ranch laws, policies, and procedures. They work with each Social Worker to establish a healthy home environment leading to eventual reunification for each child in their care.

Job Responsibilities:

Note: The following are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties may change or be temporarily altered based on the current business needs of the Company. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the reporting authority.

Leadership

· Work with the CEO to create and implement a long-range strategic plan for Social Services.

· Hire qualified staff member for the Social Services team and ensure they receive timely and appropriate training and development.

· Oversee and direct the work of the Social Services staff.

· Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.

· Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals.

· Manage and drive a highly effective and efficient organization as measured by achievement of priority goals, stakeholder satisfaction, and growth.

· Discipline and/or terminate staff employment when necessary.

· Develop and maintain the training curriculum for Social Services staff.

· Conduct training for the Social Services staff.

Social Services

· Review candidates recommended by the Social Workers for the residential program and make the final determination on admission.

· Ensure the following are created, communicated and maintained according to Ranch guidelines:

o Initial In-House Intake Evaluation and Initial Treatment Plans.

o Established goals with each child’s family, guardian, or referring agency.

o Full written assessment of each child admitted for care and of each child’s family.

o Comprehensive Treatment Plan for each child (in concert with the child, the parent(s) or guardian(s), or the primary Case Worker when placed by another agency) based on the assessment.

o Service Plan updated at least every six (6) months to include progress notes to determine attainment of stated goals and objectives

· Oversee the social work provided by each Social Worker regarding the development and treatment of each child in their care.

· Assist Social Workers with the development, implementation, and management of resident treatment plans.

· Coordinate the acquisition of service needs with private practitioners, mental health professionals, and others as needed.

· Coordinate crisis intervention involving illness, disruptive behavior, runaway, death in the family, suicide ideation, etc.

· Attend DHR hearings and advocate for the children.

· Meet regularly with each Social Worker to discuss general childcare, House Parent, and general Ranch issues.

· Assist the Social Workers and House Parents with suspected cases of abuse or neglect.

· Determine disciplinary measures specific to a child and for a specific offense.

· Determine whether or not a resident child is ready for discharge after consulting with their Social Worker, the child and their family and/or guardian, and the placing agency.

· Ensure that a plan of aftercare is created, delivered, and explained to the child and their family.

· Continue the ongoing development and implementation of CHAMPS! Independent Living Program.

Compliance

· Oversee the compliance and consistency within the Social Services department.

· Ensure that the Social Services department is in compliance with state regulations and licensing requirements.

· Interpret state regulations and establish Ranch policies related to Social Services.

· Serve as liaison to the State Department of Human Resources for all issues involving childcare and state requirements.

· Comply with the regulations of the State of Alabama for child placing agencies and the policies at the Ranch.

· Ensure that all necessary documents and on-going reports are maintained for each child in their care.

Education/Knowledge/Experience:

· MSW with Alabama license.

· Two years supervisory experience.

· Five years’ experience working with children and families.

· Ability to relate to a wide range of individuals from a social, economic, emotional, and spiritual aspect.

· Ability to share one’s faith and integrate it into one’s professional duties.

· Experience in counseling children, adolescents, older teens, and their families.

· Able to encourage and provide emotional support for Social Workers and House Parents.

· Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Ability to adjust to sudden changes in schedules.

· Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Physical Demands

· Good physical and psychological health as assessed by employment exams and job performance.

Work Conditions:

· Willing to travel throughout the state as needed.

· Willing to work split schedules of morning and evenings on occasion to counsel with children and their families and in-service training of House Parents, and counseling with families.

· Regularly attends church.

· Agrees with the Ranch’s Statement of Faith.

· Must never have been shown by credible evidence (e.g. a court or jury, department investigation, or other reliable evidence) to have abused, neglected, sexually exploited, or deprived a child or adult or to have subjected any person to serious injury as a result of intentional or grossly negligent misconduct as evidenced by an oral or written statement to this effect obtained at the time of application.
