The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work that is to be performed in the identified position. The Agribition Center is a multipurpose facility situated a few miles east of the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) campus on approximately 40 acres of land. Daily operations are managed by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) with support by AAMU and its College of Agricultural, Life, and Natural Sciences. The Agribition Center is used to provide outreach for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System to extend the programs and activities of the many programs of ACES.

The facility is ideal for:

Education: School and university activities including seminars, workshops, classes, and other outreach programs.

Exhibitions: Breed and competition shows for horses, large and small ruminants, companion animal competitions, cat or rabbit shows, commodity groups, industrial exhibitions, arts and crafts venues, and car and truck shows.

Spectator and commercial: Equine competitions, rodeos, bull riding, circuses, theatre, small-venue musicals, festivals, and indoor sports competitions

Summary

To serve as the Manager of the Alabama A&M University, Agribition Center. The incumbent provides overall management, coordinationcoordination, and promotion of events at the Agribition Center. The incumbent supervises full-time and part time employees who work in support of maintenance and events at the Agribition Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are assigned to the position. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.

Facility Event Management

  • Manages business matters for the Center and oversees all activities during an event (sound system, working of ground, barn coordination, concession stand, etc.)
  • Collaborates on the creation and implementation of Marketing Tools for the Agribition Center, through advertisement in magazines, newspapers, and television. Maintains and distributes the Agribition Center calendar of events.
  • Works to promote events and activities at the Agribition Center. This includes external and AAMU and ACES events. Maintains relationships with past and future promoters for continuous event scheduling. Plan and deliver events that provide entertainment and profitability for the Agribition Center.
  • Plans, facilitates, and coordinates work schedules for event setup, function and take down.
  • Maintains the facility, arena, grounds, barns and stalls, equipment, roads, parking lots, and barns to ensure the facility is safe and prepared for events at the Agribition Center.
  • Supervise contractors and vendors related to maintenance.
  • Coordinates the operation of the facility composting activities.
  • Serves as liaison to Madison County, the community, and local regional area.

Financial Management

  • Manages all financial responsibilities for the Agribition Center. Including use of University Information System for financial records and submitting budgetary information to the School of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences via the Department of Food and Animal Sciences.
  • Oversees maintenance of office files and records.
  • Provides supervision for full-time and part-time employees.
  • Organizes team meetings.
  • Maintains inventory of facility and provides oversight of utilization of equipment, stalls, pens, and animal handling systems of the facility.
  • Ensure all tasks to maintain and clean the arena, bathrooms, floors, and bleachers are completed.

Supervision

  • The incumbent reports to the Director of Alabama Extension at Alabama A&M University.
  • The incumbent is expected to work in the performance of job responsibilities and report to the Director on a periodic (at least weekly) basis.
  • The incumbent is responsible for activities of all employees.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift and carry-up to at least 75 pounds.
  • Ability to operate and repair small machinery/equipment associated with maintenance of the facility.
Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or Business Management or a related field and three years' experience working with large animals, i.e., cattle, horses, production and management systems or BS Degree and four years of experience and a working knowledge of animal production/management systems and the operation of a multipurpose facility that includes animals or an Agribition Center.
  • A proven record of successful business operations to include demonstrated expertise in sales and management of planning events.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

SALARY: The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
