Job Purpose

Conducts research and development of new products and technologies and updates of existing products using innovative ideas, materials, and test methods in alignment with corporate strategy and functional standards. Will contribute to objectives of research, development, and support projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conducts research and development of new products and technologies and updates of existing products using innovative ideas, materials, and test methods using approved techniques.
  • Provides training and supervision of Technicians by planning/scheduling tasks such as experiments and projects. Will mentor team member, identifying developmental needs.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to Production, Sales, and Marketing in support of product scale-up, quality control, application testing, and other cross-functional activities
  • Maintains detailed technical records in the form of a Laboratory Notebook or Computer Databases.
  • Provides progress reports, monthly and quarterly reports, technical plans, and project summaries to ensure appropriate communication of project status and needs
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment in accordance with company safety rules to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environments and safety regulations.

Job Requirements

  • Education and Experience must includer on of the following:
    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related field and 3-5 years' research and development experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing.
    • Master of Science in Chemistry or related field and 2-3 years' research and development experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing.
    • Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry or related field with 0-2 years' research and development experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and execute a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule formats.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to maintain detailed technical records with the ability to interpret data and develop insights.
  • Ability to organize and present data in graphical and tabular formats.
  • Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, basic statistics, and computer spreadsheet calculations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office. Experience with Microsoft Project, Optiva, and SAP required.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to travel 5%.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. Will be required to walk and sit.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Wear a variety of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, chemical resistant gloves, laboratory coat, and/or positive and negative pressure respirators.
  • Specific vision abilities to include close vision and color vision.

Total Compensation

The compensation package for this position will include a base salary, annual bonus, and employee benefits that are effective the first day of employment.
