The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Coordinator, Special Education, Job Code 076, TS 522, Salary TBD. This is a grant funded position. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree;
  • Proper Ohio Administrative License;
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in general education, special education, or related services (i.e., School Psychology, School Counseling, Speech Language Pathologist).

DESIRED:

  • Experience in leadership positions within the profession;
  • Experience in curriculum development process;
  • Experience in Special Education teaching and/or Policies and Procedures.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Assists with the district-wide implementation of a Pyramid of Learning;
  • Serves as liaison between the Office of Special Education, other school districts, and other departments in the Akron Public Schools and agencies;
  • Assists in creating services to intervene early with at-risk students;
  • Supports the implementation of intervention assistance teams to guide integrated intervention services;
  • Provides consultation and assistance, through observation and discussion, to personnel to assure continuity among evaluation data, the Individual Education Plan (IEP), and daily lesson plans;
  • Assists in parent conferences, development of the IEP’s and periodic reviews to assure that appropriate specialized services are being provided for all children with disabilities;
  • Assists in the development of educational evaluation and accountability procedures, curriculum and staff development and implementing or modifying instructional or classroom management strategies;
  • Provides on-going professional development to staff, parents, and community members regarding early intervening strategies and the education of children with disabilities;
  • Provides updated student enrollment projections and staffing needs to other departments;
  • Supervises services, costs and state reports for the Akron students served out of district;
  • Supervises and manages student records;
  • Maintains updated class lists for students with disabilities;
  • Assists in the preparation of all reports for the Ohio Department of Education;
  • Participates in general administrative functions requiring cooperative participation within the school system, i.e., Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences and various assigned cluster duties;
  • Assists in the establishment and implementation of school policies and procedures relating to federal and state laws for special education;
  • Provides information to school personnel regarding federal and state laws and regulations and other topics essential for the delivery of services to children with disabilities;
  • Reports to and assumes any other responsibilities assigned by the Director of Special Education.
