The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Consulting Teacher in Waiting (All Subject Areas), Job Code 006, TS 380 (190 Days). Salary TBD. Collective Bargaining Unit – AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.
SUMMARY:
Consulting teachers, in all curriculum areas, have the responsibility for mentoring and assessing intern teachers and assisting them in their professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
A current classroom teacher or a teacher with a minimum of three (3) recent years of successful full-time teaching experience with Akron Public Schools;
Applicants must be certified and teaching in the area for which they are applying. A current, valid copy of Ohio license must be included with the application;
Successful candidate must possess strong writing, communication and organizational skills;
Must be (or become) certified as an Ohio Teacher Evaluation System evaluator;
Must be (or become) certified as a mentor/teacher through ODE for the Resident
Educator Program;
Must have valid Ohio driver’s license.
Desired:
Master’s Degree in Education or related Masters.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Facilitates the effective delivery of instruction in the classroom by providing ongoing support, assistance and advice to classroom teachers in the area of assignment;
Provides technical assistance to district and school staff in the area of assignment;
Provides feedback to appropriate district and school staff regarding progress of teacher;
Provides staff training as assigned to meet district goals and objectives of the strategic plan;
Gathers data and completes reports as required to complete assignments;
Provides assistance to teachers and other staff in the area of effective instructional and classroom management techniques;
Assists teachers in the successful implementation of the curriculum;
Provides support in the implementation of site-based plans;
Make recommendations regarding continued employment to the Intern Board of Review;
Consults with building principal;
Reports to the Executive Director, Teaching and Learning.
