Job Overview:

Entry Level position as general practice litigation attorney. Provide professional civil and criminal legal services in the areas including but not limited to family, contracts, business, employment, and torts. Position is tooled for instruction and learning of a new attorney to become skilled at a variety of professional duties. Attorney will be involved in providing a full range of legal services related to litigation, representation, and advice for private citizens and companies. The work will vary depending upon areas of requests for legal services and case volumes.

Job Functions:

  • Advising and representing clients in relation to their legal rights in civil and criminal cases.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss the various aspects of their cases.
  • Performing research to gather pertinent information for each client case.
  • Attending all hearings.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal documents to be signed by clients.
  • Developing strategies to resolve cases favorably for clients.
  • Explaining all legal options and possible outcomes to clients.
  • Interview and advise new and prospective clients.
  • Travel to courts surrounding Billings as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules.
  • Knowledge of Montana State Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Knowledge of legal research methods, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of time and case management principles.
  • Knowledge of contemporary office practices and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skill in researching, understanding, interpreting, and explaining constitutional provisions, statutes, laws, codes, regulations, and legal decisions.
  • Skill in legal and professional writing and advocacy.
  • Skill in obtaining information through interviewing, listening, and verbal feedback.
  • Ability to develop expertise of the law.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues to a diverse population.
  • Ability to analyze documents, interviews, facts and evidence.
  • Reliable transportation.

Education and Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school or equivalency.
  • Must be an active member, in good standing, of the Montana State Bar.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in professional legal setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel within Montana for cases in the districts surrounding Billings.
  • Sufficient mobility necessary to navigate office environments, including going up and down stairs.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 45lbs.

License/Certification:

  • Montana State Bar license or a UBE score of 266 and MPRE score of 80 within the last 3 years

Salary: $80,000 per year
