Medevac Dispatcher

AirCare Alaska specializes in Medevac services and is based out Fairbanks, Alaska. AirCare Alaska transports patients from rural Alaska to higher levels of care as well as interfacility air ambulance transport. AirCare Alaska is looking for Flight Dispatchers to provide high quality customer service to those requesting our services.

Full-Time Position

This is an onsite position with 12-hour shifts, providing 24 hour coverage. Individuals will work a Kelly schedule 3 shifts one week, 4 the next.

Job Description

AirCare Alaska is seeking motivated individuals to work as Medevac Dispatchers. They will be instrumental in ensuring the successful, safe, and effective operation of medevac aircraft operations. The Medevac Dispatcher will be the first person notified of a medevac request. They will then coordinate flight and medical resources and continually monitor and manage the medevac through to its successful conclusion. The Medevac Dispatchers will undergo training to develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively perform their duties. Successful candidates for this role should have excellent administrative, people and communication skills.

Job Duties

· Receive incoming medevac requests, notify medical and flight personnel and begin to organize medevac operation.

· Plan each medevac flight departure with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and schedule continuity.

· Coordinate with pilots and medical crew members to ensure that all safety procedures are followed.

· Analyze weather and airport conditions to anticipate changes that may affect aircraft operations.

· Create flight plans using information from the dispatcher’s database of airport operations and runway configurations.

· Calculate fuel requirements based on aircraft type, distance, weather conditions, destination alternatives, and regulatory guidelines.

· Prepare flight plans and sign flight releases, ensuring all necessary information for safe flight completion is included.

· Provide assistance to the pilot to ensure safe flight operations.

· Monitor flight progress and update flight crew on significant changes to weather or flight plans, recommending alternative measures for safety when needed.

· Monitor air traffic control communications to ensure safe passage of planes in flight.

· Communicate with pilots about any changes in plans or emergencies that may occur during a flight.

· Maintain competency by successfully completing initial and recuring company arranged training.

· Able to work independently with minimal supervision on multiple tasks, prioritize, and complete tasks with excellent attention to detail.

Job Requirements

· A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

· EMT or medical experience highly desirable.

· Prior aircraft dispatch experience is desirable.

· Strong ability to prioritize and be proactive in a fast-paced and changing environment.

· Problem-solving skills and ability to handle both practical and abstract variables.

· Proficiency in computer-based environments, including Windows and web browsers.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

· Work performed by this role is in an office environment with standard temperatures, ventilation, and lighting.

· Visual concentration or alertness is required when preparing flight plans; dispatching aircraft;
monitoring aircraft movements; and recording technical information associated with aircraft
operation.

· Alertness and concentration are required when performing repetitive tasks such as data
entry and higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety
of others.

· Pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check will be required prior to employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $29.00 per hour
